This is what we call an all-rounder. Clan history, striking landscapes, mysterious legends, pristine beaches, that feeling of utter remoteness... this day-trip from Inverness will take you through some of the most rugged and remote parts of the beloved Scottish Highlands and a section of the famous NC500 Route. And we invite you to embark on this adventure with us.

Winding through wild weather and scenery, NC500 is one of the most unique routes in the world.

Don't be fooled, this isn’t the Caribbean... but we understand your mistake gazing at these blue waters.

This 15th-century castle ruin watches over the stunning Loch Assynt.

From stunning sculptures to poetry carved into rockfaces, you'll be drawn in by these majestic viewpoints.

Gazing upon the Assynt mountains, you feel the ancient soul of the Earth stirring beneath your feet.

This tranquil fishing village will win you over with its dramatic Highland scenery and famous sweet and savoury pies.

Sections of the NC500 Route, journey to Ullapool, various photo stops
They call Inverness the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ for a reason. After welcoming you on board, we head North towards some of Scotland’s most stunningly rugged and remote regions. Are you prepared? Got your camera? Scarf? Walking shoes? Today, we journey along sections of the iconic North Coast 500 - where every twist in the road reveals a view more spectacular than the last.
Ullapool & Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve
Next, we arrive in the charming village of Ullapool, tucked along the shores of Loch Broom. Steeped in a proud fishing heritage, it’s the perfect place to sample some freshly caught, locally sourced seafood. Prefer to take it slow? Stroll among the whitewashed cottages, letting the salty sea breeze and cries of seabirds guide your way.
Next, we’re off to Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve where rocks come to life... or it seems that way. From stunning sculptures to poetry carved into rockfaces, it's a breathtaking spot to be sure.
Ardvreck Castle, Lochinver for lunch, Achmelvich Beach
No visit to Scotland is complete without a ruinous castle. As you explore the ruins of Ardvreck Castle, imagine life here in the 15th century for the MacLeod clan, gazing out over the mysterious Loch Assynt. We head to the small fishing port of Lochinver on the coast for lunch. Enjoy the beautiful mountain views as you perhaps munch on one of their famous pies. We continue on through winding coastal roads, surrounded by the iconic Highland terrain to a beach straight out of the Caribbean. That’s how stepping onto Achmelvich Beach feels. Water as clear and blue as a crystal, sand as fine and white as snow. Enjoy a wee stroll, because no matter the weather this is a beautiful spot.
Returning to Inverness
Pies, beaches, castles... it’s been a day to remember as we head back to Inverness that evening.
