There's something about a good mystery that keeps us hooked. We can speculate, but the reason ancient humans built places like Stonehenge and Avebury can never be fully understood. But that's half the fun. You're likely to leave this tour feeling beguiled. You'll definitely leave in awe. It's impossible not to feel something a little deeper when staring at monuments from the past. Centuries of stories are waiting to be discovered. Which will be your favourite?

Wander through one of the prettiest villages in England; you might just see some of your favourite movies reflected back at you.

The towering stone circle of this World Heritage Site is one of the world’s most famous prehistoric monuments, abound with myths, folklore and speculation.

Much of the village of Avebury is encircled by a famous prehistoric stone circle, unique and must be seen to be believed.

A key ceremonial site for Neolithic Britain, this site is older and larger than Stonehenge, dating from roughly 2850 BC.

Lacock village is a picture-perfect English gem, with cobbled streets, historic stone cottages, and iconic Harry Potter filming locations.

A medieval abbey turned Tudor mansion, it’s been the backdrop for films and TV dramas like Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, and Downton Abbey.

Bath to Stonehenge
Today, we're stepping back in time. You depart from Bath and head south, towards the Salisbury Plain, an area rich in archaeology & ancient secrets.
Stonehenge
You arrive at the ancient site of Stonehenge. You'll have the whole morning to enjoy the visitor centre and get up close to the neolithic stones, which have stood for over 5000 years. Will you uncover the mystery behind why this monument was built?
Avebury and Lacock Village
After Stonehenge, you travel north into the rolling hills of the North Wessex Downs. You're off to the village of Avebury, to meander around 16th and 17th century homes surrounded by the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world (and have a spot of lunch in the heart of the mysterious stone circle). From here, it's a short drive to Lacock, where you'll have time to visit the famous abbey. Fans of Harry Potter, get your cameras ready! You'll recognise the cloisters, used as Hogwarts corridors in the movies. There's plenty to discover in this magical medieval building.
The Cotswolds and return to Bath
There's still time for one more historic village, as you make your way into the Cotswolds. A region famous for traditional, thatched-roof cottages and rolling hills, your last stop of the day before heading home is the village of Castle Combe, widely recognised as one of the prettiest villages in the region. You'll have time for some last pictures and a short wander, before returning to Bath.
You return to Bath at approximately 6pm.
