Morning

Journey through the Great Glen to Glenfinnan

Adventure awaits as you depart Inverness, travelling through rugged mountains and shaded glens of the Great Glen, tracing the sparkling banks of Loch Ness, and crossing the historic Caledonian Canal.

You stop for a bit at Fort Augustus to stretch your legs and take some photos of the mysterious loch. Then, the road winds through one of the most iconinc part of the Scottish Highlands, leading towards Glenfinnan.

Mid Morning

Free time in Glenfinnan and journey off the beaten track

Glenfinnan, a stunning glen nestled among mountains and overlooking Loch Shiel is home to two icons – the Glenfinnan Monument and the Glenfinnan Viaduct, beloved by Harry Potter fans. Here, you’ll have time to reflect on the Jacobite Uprising of 1745 and explore the monument. Keep an eye out for the Jacobite Steam Train, which occasionally puffs gracefully across the viaduct (operated by a third party and may not always appear). Whether or not the train appears, this enchanting glen will leave you spellbound by the beauty of the Highlands. Then, we get off-the-beaten track as we travel past a sea loch in western Lochaber and towards Lochailean with a lunch stop en route.

Afternoon

Journey off-the-beaten track to the ferry for the Isle of Mull

Travelling through the remote and beautiful Morvern Peninsula in Argyll and Bute, we pass rugged landscapes and atmospheric castle ruins on our way to the ferry from Lochaline to the Isle of Mull.

After landing on Mull, we take time for a refreshing walk. Aros Park, just outside Tobermory, offers waterfalls, forest trails, and the chance to spot wildlife such as red squirrels, deer, and even otters.

We then continue to your overnight base in the charming village of Tobermory.

Early Evening

Free evening in Tobermory

Tobermory, Mull's vibrant capital, is yours to explore at your leisure this evening. With its brightly coloured waterfront houses, Tobermory, meaning “Well of Mary”, is often described as one of the most picturesque harbour towns in Scotland. It’s hard to imagine a better place to enjoy a fresh seafood dinner!

Iona Abbey

Morning

Journey through Mull

Today, we're embarking on an exciting island-hopping adventure, visiting two stunning islands: Iona and Staffa, while exploring the scenic beauty of Mull along the way.

Mid Morning

Journey to Fionport and a ferry to Iona

We take a relaxing drive with plenty of stops for photos of the incredible island landscape. Mull being the second-largest island of the Inner Hebrides there is something for everyone, between the nature, wildlife and rich history to fall in love with, as we make our way across the island to Fionnphort, our gateway to Iona and Staffa.

Afternoon

Iona and Staffa

Discover the serene beauty of Iona, a sacred island where history and nature meet. You've got free time here to walk in the footsteps of St Columba at the ancient Iona Abbey, or admire the magnificent, ancient Celtic crosses and headstones.

Later, take an optional boat trip to Staffa, where you may spot puffins and other wildlife. This is home to the awe-inspiring Fingal's Cave that is one of the most remarkable geological sites in the world. The island, made of striking hexagonal columns, was formed millions of years ago by volcanic eruptions, though local legend claims it was built by a giant.

Early Evening

Ferry back to Mull and free evening in Tobermory

After a day spent exploring these remarkable islands, we hop back on a ferry to Mull and journey through scenic glens, past craggy hills, and shimmering lochs to Tobermory. You'll have free time this evening - will you enjoy a leisurely dinner and stroll along the picturesque harbour, or perhaps seek out a traditional Scottish music session in one of the local pubs? Day 3 - Journey back to Inverness

Jacobite Steam Train

Morning

Journey to the ferry to mainland Scotland

We’re off for our last day of adventure and a farewell to Mull. Our next Ferry takes us back to the mainland, arriving at Kilchoan. Famous fishing bays, lighthouses and castle ruins punctuate our route along Loch Sunart, a truly remote and spectacular part of Scotland's West Coast.

Mid Morning

Journey off-the-beaten track to Mallaig

Back on the mainland, you continue toward Mallaig, travelling through a landscape that hasn’t forgotten its wild heart. The single‑track ribbon of tarmac winds between ancient hills, quiet lochs, and stretches of coastline where the light shifts by the minute.

The anticipation builds as you arrive in Mallaig, where you’ll soon board the famous Jacobite Steam Train. Before that, there’s time to enjoy lunch in this delightful coastal village - and the local fish and chips come highly recommended.

Afternoon

Lunch in Mallaig & the ride on the Jacobite Steam Train to Fort William

Board the famous Jacobite Steam Train, also known as the real-life Hogwarts Express, for a magical journey through dramatic Highland scenery. You travel over the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films, with sweeping views over Loch Shiel and the Jacobite Monument. The journey continues along the tranquil sea loch, where the landscape gradually opens out, until the sight of Ben Nevis appears as your train glides into Fort William’s station.

Your Driver‑Guide will meet you off the train in Fort William, ready to continue the adventure by mini‑coach.

Early Evening

Fort William to Inverness

Travelling along the south side of Loch Ness, you experience the beauty of the Great Glen from a quieter, more atmospheric perspective, with peaceful roads and sweeping views across the water.

A stop at the Falls of Foyers gives you the chance to stretch your legs and follow a short path through native pine trees to this hidden-away cascade. Once a favourite of Robert Burns, the waterfall is dramatic and secluded - and you might even spot a red squirrel in the trees.

As we return to Inverness, you’ll have time to reflect on the stunning natural beauty and the magic of the experiences on this tour.

You return to Inverness at approximately 7pm.

FAQ

Hello curious traveller, are you ready to go beyond with us? Whether you're heading to the Highlands, the Lake District, or further; we know you might have a few questions before setting off on your adventure. Our FAQs are here to help make your journey smooth and stress-free.

Can itineraries change?

Your tour will always follow the itinerary as closely as possible. Your driver-guide will keep you up to date on the road, and we'll try to get in touch about any large changes prior to your departure.

How does accommodation work?

Accommodation is an important part of your multi-day tour experience.

If accommodation isn’t included in the price of your tour, you can choose one of two options:

  • Use our Concierge Service (Reserved by Rabbie's), where we arrange rooms with trusted third-party providers for you (a Concierge Service Fee applies and varies by tour).

  • Or book your own accommodation independently (Tour Only).

Read more about how accommodation works

Accommodation pricing

Where accommodation not included in your tour package, prices will vary per location, time of year and are based on availability. We work with verified 3rd party providers who set their own prices.

You should expect to pay from £80 (€80) per person per night for B&B Ensuite accommodation or from £100 (€100) for a Hotel. Prices are based on multiple occupancy per room. Supplements for single occupancy may apply.

For more details please view our Accommodation Guide

Do you offer luggage storage?

No - however there are luggage storage services and facilities in most of our departure cities. Read our guide on luggage storage.

Do you offer hotel pickups in the departure cities?

The UK and Ireland's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure, we only pick up from our central meeting points. What's more is leaving the city using the most direct route also reduces the carbon footprint of our tours.

Is there parking close to the departure point?

We don't recommend bringing your car into the centre of our departure cities. It can be hard to find parking, and there are excellent public transportation services.

When should I get to the departure point?

Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, we can't wait for you if you're late.

Do I need a visa or travel authorisation to go on a Rabbie’s tour?

Entry requirements vary depending on your nationality, personal circumstances, and the country or countries you will travel to and transit through. It is your responsibility to ensure you have all relevant documentation required for your selected itinerary and that you meet all formal entry requirements before travelling.

You can find up-to-date and reliable information on the official tourism website of the counties you’re visiting, or from their embassy or consulate.

What happens if I'm late or miss the tour?

If you're late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies. 100% charges are applicable, and you will not be entitled to a refund or alternative.

What are your cancellation policies?

Cancellation terms depend on which tour you've booked:

1 Day Tours
You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 72 hours or more before the tour departure.

2+ Day Tours
You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 21 or more days before the tour departure.

Package tours
You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 56 days or more before the tour departure.

If you cancel inside these notice periods, full charges will apply and no refunds will be issued.

To cancel your booking please email tours@rabbies.com as soon as possible. The effective date of cancellation will be the date we receive written confirmation from you.

What is a guaranteed departure?

It's simple: you book, you go. This means we'll never cancel your tour because of a minimum numbers policy.

Can I pre-book a specific seat?

Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable 16-seat mini-coaches have huge windows. So, you'll always get a good view.

Are there toilets on the bus?

We like to keep our coaches small and nimble. This means we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you frequently stop in local towns and villages for comfort breaks.

Do you take children on your tours?

We regret we don't carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours. Also, some of our tours that focus on whisky experiences are suitable for travellers aged 18+.

You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know, so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.

How much time do I get off the bus?

We want you to enjoy every country you visit with us. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.

Why do you exclude visitor attractions?

We exclude visitor attractions in your tour price because it lets you travel your way. It means you can pamper yourself with a luxury lunch or skip an attraction whenever you feel like it.

Do we need to bring our own lunch?

You don't need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.

Should I tip the driver-guide?

Let's be honest, our driver-guides would never refuse a cheeky bonus. But it's up to you, and the amount is entirely at your discretion.

What about travel insurance?

We advise you take out travel insurance.

I have more questions, who can help me?

If you have any more questions, call us on +44(0)131 226 3133, email tours@rabbies.com , or check out our full FAQs.
