Milan to Lake Garda
Don't get us wrong, we adore Milan. But we're taking you away from it for now for a very good reason. We journey towards the striking Lake Garda. It's more than Italy's largest lake; it's one of the most visited and photographed places in the country. And once we arrive, you'll understand why. Shimmering ice blue water surrounded by striking mountain peaks.
Sirmione
There are almost too many villages and towns to choose from along Lake Garda. Our first stop this morning is the popular Sirmione. The quaint old town centre is packed with religious buildings, monuments and views of the shining water. But dominating its centre is the castle. This fortress hails from the Scaliger era, built in the latter half of the 14th century as a defensive structure to protect the area from enemies and to operate the port. Surrounding the castle are an array of shops, cute cafes, and beautiful lakeside walks.
Peschiera del Garda
We hope you've built up an appetite this morning because our next stop is our lunch stop for the day, at the famous Peschiera del Garda. You'll be mesmerised by the glistening blue water, the burst of flowers around every corner, and the glow of happiness emanating from the people around you. Lake Garda is as famous as they come. This lake's crystal-clear waters and views of the Dolomites have made the place a favourite destination for artists, poets, and travellers since the Roman ages. We spend the day exploring this beautiful spot and trust us when we say it feels like a true vacation getaway.
Free evening in Padua
We then head to Padua, our home for tonight. This city has rich historical significance, its architecture reflecting a blend of various periods, and claims to be the oldest city in northern Italy, founded in 1183 BC by the Trojan prince Antenor. Make sure you wander town tonight on your way to find something delicious and carb-heavy to eat. This is Italy, after all. We highly recommend taking a walk around the Prato della Valle, Padua's large oval piazza surrounded by a canal.

Bassano del Grappa
Villa Pisani
Your morning starts with a masterpiece, Villa Pisani, in the town of Stra. This rural palace is widely beloved for its Venetian Baroque architecture, designed by Andrea Palladio in the 18th century. Here you have time to explore the palace and its magnificent gardens... the very same ground where many historical figures once wandered, including Napoleon Bonaparte.
Bassano del Grappa
Now it's time to visit the lovely city of Bassano del Grappa. Don't forget to get a picture of the 13th-century wooden Ponte Vecchio bridge that spans the River Brenta. There's plenty to see here, from Bonaguro Palace to the Civic Museum, which you can either explore at your own leisure or join us for an optional Grappa tasting.
Valdobbiadene
Your day ends with a visit to a region known as the Prosecco Heartland, Valdobbiadene. Surrounded by lush vineyards and delicious wines, this charming region is both delicious and beautiful. It's up to you what you'd like to do here. Choose between an optional winery visit with Prosecco tasting, or free time in the town.
Free evening in Venice
Then it's onwards to a pretty exciting city. Venice, the “Floating City”. Hundreds of tiny bridges crisscrossing over quiet canals, gondolas passing underneath, locals meandering their way to work, shopfronts creaking open, a glistening treasure trove of jewellery and Murano Glass inside. The best part? This is where you'll be sleeping for the next two nights. And if there's one thing we love – it's Venice after dark. When the day visitors go home, the city goes quiet, and you're left to wander its winding streets, canals and bridges on your way to find somewhere cosy to eat.

Venice
Guided Tour of Venice
With its wealth, trade, and power; Venice has always been bold. Trust us, you'll need at least a full day in Venice. We wish we could give you more, and, as there will be so much for you to choose from, we recommend making a list before you go. You enjoy an included two-hour guided walking tour of the city and then it's up to you what you explore next. From people-watching in Piazza San Marco to frequenting the famous galleries, you have the whole day and night in Venice.
Free time in Venice
177 canals, 350 gondoliers, and the most idiosyncratic cityscapes in the world: Venice, ‘the Floating City', is your home for the day. It's been built on over 118 islands and hosts one of the most famous festivals in the world. Not to mention its unique painting style and architecture classifies Venice as one of the great centres of the Renaissance, equal to Rome and Florence.
Free time in Venice
What might you see? Day travellers with their maps and cameras, wide-eyed as they stare up at St. Mark's Basilica... just as you are. People who have come to stay the night wander past, dragging their rolling suitcases over the cobbled streets and bridges, wishing they'd packed lighter. But the labyrinth of Venice is part of its charm. Never knowing where you might end up or how many bridges are between you and your destination, but what's certain is that every turn, every nook and cranny, every cracked facade holds surprises and stories and memories you will remember for a long time. The magic of Venice lies in never knowing what's around the corner.
Free evening in Venice
Pigeons swarm open squares; gondolieres sing Italian songs as they drift underneath, ferrying travellers with wide grins – perhaps you'll be one of them; and impossibly large stone buildings loom overhead. Maybe you'll stumble into a restaurant for one of the best Italian meals you've had. Perhaps you'll step back in the refurbished 17th century pharmacy that now sells luxury perfumes. Maybe you'll stand quietly in the crypt of a humble Venetian church, hugged by the cool air as you ponder its history. As the day comes to an end, the day travellers depart the city, clearing out its streets and restaurants, leaving you to savour the eerie beauty of The Floating City.

Mantua
Venice to Mantua
We know how difficult it is to drag yourself away from a place like Venice. It's something akin to waking up in the morning after a great dream that lingers on your mind for the rest of the day. But, luckily for you, we've got more of Italy to explore, and Italy has no shortage of incredible destinations, some of which we'll take you to today. Waving farewell to the Floating City, we're back on the road and head inland once more.
Mantua
Italy is all about romance and our first stop this morning is the charmingly romantic medieval town of Mantua. This major cultural and artistic hub was once ruled by the Gonzaga family back between the 14th and 17th centuries, a family whose members were saints, cardinals, bishops and even Queens. So, it's no surprise that the Palazzo Ducale with its stunning frescoes is Italy's second largest residence after the Vatican, as it was home to the Gonzaga family for 400 years. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is brimming with rich historical and architectural legacy. You have several hours to explore this artistic treasure and taste some of the local specialties.
Cremona
Speaking of gorgeous, you're going to love Cremona and for far more than its glorious architecture. Cremona is internationally renowned for its tradition of violin making. Music lovers may know names such as Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri... well Cremona was the place these legends called home. The city is home to many small violin-making workshops, perhaps you'll have time to stop in at one? Or maybe you'll wander the city's well-preserved medieval centre, meandering around the piazza as you take in the cathedral, town hall, and the energy of such a place. Tip: Cremona is known for its nougat, so if you've got a sweet tooth, don't miss out!
Return to Milan
You know what they say about Italians... that they're passionate and romantic, full of life and energy. You can see why now, can't you? To be surrounded by enigmatic places like Venice, fairy-tale villages along Lake Garda, and cultural hubs like Milan, it's no wonder the Italian spirit has started to seep its way into your heart. Take some of it home with you – the rich Italian songs, the indulgence of an Italian meal – as we head back to Milan. And just because the journey ends here doesn't mean there isn't another one just around the corner.
