There's something about Portugal that people seem to fall in love with. Whether it's the fascinating history, the colourful buildings, the kindness of the locals, or the incredible drinks and food on offer... something grabs hold of people and never lets go. And on this trip, we're going to take you beyond the bustling city of Lisbon to explore beautiful Portugal.
Óbidos
Our first stop is a charming and historic town known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, lively atmosphere, and Ginna Liqueur... welcome to Óbidos! Maybe you'll visit the 12th-century castle. Maybe you'll find a local shop and sample that biting cherry-flavoured spirit that has become a symbol of the town. Or maybe you'll explore the shops. It's a strong opening act, but this is only the beginning, since Portugal is packed with little towns and unique experiences that you won't forget.
Free time and lunch in Coimbra
Next is Coimbra, a historic city that blends history, education, and cultural traditions. We pop into the University library for an included visit, since we had to make sure you saw this beauty. The University of Coimbra was founded in 1290, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. But why the Joanina Library? Among other things, it houses a colony of bats which help preserve the ancient books by preventing insect damage... that's one way to do it! After the tour, you have free time in the city to explore and have lunch before we head to our overnight destination, Porto.

Sitting along the vibrant Douro River, Porto is full of character thanks to its granite architecture, red-roofed houses, decorative tiles, and – of course – its port wine. As you settle in for the night, remember it's never too early to sample a local delicacy while on holiday. Which variety of port wine will you sample first: Ruby, Tawny, White or Rosé?

Today, you have an important decision to make. Do you lounge around and take in the cathedrals, cellars, and cuisine of beautiful Porto? Or do you hop on the mini-coach with us and venture through the Douro Valley? Lucky for you, there's no wrong option.
Optional excursion to Peso de Regua
When you join our optional day excursion, you travel to Peso de Regua, a charming town in northern Portugal for an optional wine tasting at a local winery. Known as the capital of the Port wine region, Peso da Régua is steeped in winemaking history and surrounded by breathtaking landscapes of terraced vineyards that cascade down to the banks of the Douro River. You will stay at the winery a bit longer to fully enjoy this experience and some lunch. Alternatively, spend this time exploring the town and choose the restaurant of your own choice.
Pinhão boat cruise
After savoring the region's finest wine and cuisine, we make our way to Pinhão to embark on a serene river cruise aboard a traditional rabelo boat. As you drift along the Douro River, marvel at the terraced vineyards cascading gracefully down the hillsides—an iconic landscape shaped by centuries of winemaking tradition. This is the heart of one of the world's oldest wine regions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the timeless beauty of nature and the legacy of craftsmanship come together in perfect harmony. After this experience, we journey back to Porto, where you can continue exploring the charm of this azulejo-adorned city and uncover its many hidden treasures.

It's your second evening in Porto, and we recommend exploring the historic Ribeira district that is enchanting at night, with its cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and bustling waterfront. Enjoy a meal or a drink at one of the many riverside cafes while soaking in views of the Dom Luís I Bridge illuminated against the night sky.
Day 3 - Braga & Guimarães, the 'birthplace of Portugal'.

You leave Porto behind and venture north to Braga where you'll visit the famous Bom Jesus Sanctuary. This place of religious, cultural and architectural heritage was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Famous for its iconic zigzagging staircase, this sacred sanctuary invites visitors to ascend its ornate steps, adorned with intricate fountains and statues, symbolizing a journey of faith and reflection. Whether you climb the steps or take the charming funicular, visiting Bom Jesus is an inspiring experience that blends faith, art, and nature in one unforgettable destination.

Your next stop is Guimarães, known as the 'birthplace of Portugal'. The historic centre is of the city is part of UNESCO World Heritage. You will have enough free time to learn more about the city and enjoy lunch.

For a must-see glimpse into the 15-16th century life of the Braganza Dukes, you can opt to visit the Palace of Braganza. And then it's over the border and into Spain, to the captivating region of Galicia, known for its lush green landscapes, rugged coastline, and rich cultural heritage. You arrive in Santiago de Compostela, one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the world, where you stay for two nights. Stroll through its medieval quarter, where the warm glow of streetlights highlights its stunning architecture. The iconic Plaza del Obradoiro is especially magical at sunset, with the grand Cathedral of Santiago illuminated in all its glory.
Day 4 - Santiago de Compostela & The End of the World, Cape Finisterre

Today, you can relax and enjoy the sights of Santiago de Compostela at your own pace or come on an adventure with us.
If you join our trip, we will travel through Galicia’s rugged countryside, past quaint stone villages and green rolling hills to the Costa da Morte, ‘the Coast of Death'. And this isn't a shoreline infested with pirates; it's a place that was once notorious for shipwrecks.

Our first stop is the charming town of Muxía, a historic harbour steeped in maritime tradition. Stroll along the picturesque waterfront, watch the fishing boats set sail, and visit the steeped in legend Virxe da Barca Sanctuary, guarding a rocky promontory overlooking the ocean. And remember to savour the region's renowned fresh seafood while visiting, a true culinary highlight of Galicia.
Cape Finisterre
We travel through the countryside and head to Cape Finisterre, famously known as the "End of the World." For ancient civilizations, this rugged headland marked the edge of the known earth, where land meets the vast Atlantic. Here, you'll have free time to admire the lighthouse, take in the dramatic views, grab a bite, and feel the timeless power of the ocean crashing against the cliffs. This region is blessed with natural beauty like Ézaro Waterfall tumbling straight into the ocean, and Carnota Beach, a gorgeous stretch of white sand overlooked by Monte Pindo - Galicia's "Celtic Olympus," a mystical mountain steeped in legends of ancient rituals and hidden treasures.

When you arrive back in Santiago de Compostela, the evening is yours to indulge in the city's renowned tapas and Galician seafood at one of its cosy restaurants or bustling taverns. Later, you can relax at a traditional café, sip on a glass of local Albariño wine, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage city.

Journey to Lugo
We travel inland to our first stop of the day in Lugo. The journey takes us through the heart of Galicia, where rolling green hills, forests, and rivers define the landscape. The lush vegetation, influenced by Galicia's temperate climate, makes the region feel almost otherworldly.

This town has a lot to be proud of. Apart from a stunning cathedral and oodles of charm, it has the only fully intact Roman city walls in the world. So, feel like a Roman Legionnaire and take a stroll along the defenses.

Astorga will surprise you with its architectural wonder; Modernist-style Episcopal Palace, designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí. Explore this whimsical marvel that stands out with its fairytale-like towers, intricate stonework, and vivid, colorful details, offering a striking contrast to the town's medieval surroundings. You've got free time for lunch and to explore the palace, or the old town. Next, we travel to Salamanca, your home for one night. This mesmerising city is adorned with the riches of the Spanish Golden Age and boasts a great culinary scene.

Home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, Salamanca's historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can wander through grand squares like Plaza Mayor, widely considered one of the most beautiful in Spain. Or you can enjoy a relaxed dinner of tapas or traditional charra cuisine in one of the city's many restaurants, accompanied by a glass of local wine.

Free time and lunch in Ávila
We arrive in Ávila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its remarkable medieval architecture. You'll have free time to have lunch and to explore to your heart's content. What makes this city truly unique is its incredible walls, which are among the best preserved in Europe. Punctuated with 88 towers and 9 gates, the walls are a great way to connect to Ávila's past. There is a designated walking route that allows visitors to explore sections of the walls, offering stunning panoramic views of the city, its surrounding countryside, and the surrounding landscape. Next, is another remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site, El Escorial, the residence of the Spanish Royals.

A visit to El Escorial, the grand royal monastery, is like stepping into the heart of Spanish history and culture. As you wander through its imposing halls, you'll discover the awe-inspiring Royal Pantheon, the magnificent Basilica, and the tranquil Courtyards, each telling stories of Spain's past, from the reign of King Philip II to the rich religious traditions that shaped the country. After having been immersed in the riches of Spain, we take you to Madrid in the evening.

Summer (June - August)
Summers are warm and dry, with temperatures ranging from 65-90°F (18-32°C). Coastal areas enjoy refreshing breezes, while inland regions can experience hotter days. Monthly rainfall averages around 0.5-1 inches, and humidity is around 50-65%.
Autumn (September - November)
Autumns are warm and pleasant, with temperatures from 55-75°F (13-24°C). Monthly rainfall increases to 2-4 inches, especially in November, and humidity levels remain moderate at 65-75%. With golden landscapes, grape harvests, and fewer crowds, it’s a perfect time to explore the scenic countryside and historic towns.
Winter (December - February)
Winters are mild and enjoyable, with temperatures ranging from 45-65°F (7-18°C), with coastal areas staying warmer than inland regions. Monthly rainfall averages between 3-5 inches, and humidity levels hover around 70-80%.

- Do I need a visa to take this tour?
Entry requirements vary depending on your nationality, personal circumstances, and the country or countries you will travel to and transit through. It is your responsibility to ensure you have all relevant documentation required for your selected itinerary and that you meet all formal entry requirements before travelling.
Check the official tourism website of the country you’re visiting for up-to-date and reliable information. Travel between countries is easy because there are no passport checks at the borders.
- Do you offer hotel pickups in the departure cities?
Europe's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure and avoid contributing to congestion issues, we start our trip from hotels located conveniently on the edge of cities. We choose hotels with good public transport connections to the city centre, so you can enjoy your evening explorations.
To make your tour more convenient, you can contact us and add an optional pre and post-departure accommodation in the hotel we use as a pick up or a drop off point. Email our friendly team tours@rabbies.com.com and they will arrange this for you.
- When should I get to the departure point?
Arrive at the hotel lobby 15 minutes before your departure time. Unfortunately, we’re unable to wait for you if you’re late due to vehicle restrictions. But depending on your situation, we may be able to help you catch up with your tour.
- What are your cancellation policies?
We have a cancellation period of 56 days for our Europe tours. If you cancel your trip before this period, we give you a full refund minus a 10% admin charge. If you cancel inside this time frame, you’re liable for the cost of the tour package.

- What is a guaranteed departure?
It's simple: you book, you go. This means we'll never cancel your tour because of a minimum numbers policy.
- Can routes change?
Your friendly driver and guide are passionate about the places they visit and know all the local gossip. This means your tour itinerary can change a little due to festivities, attraction opening hour changes, and spontaneous photo opportunities.
- Can I pre-book a specific seat?
Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable mini-coaches offer a good view.
- Are there toilets on the bus?
We like to keep our coaches small and nimble. This means we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you frequently stop in local towns and villages for comfort breaks.
- How much time do I get off the bus?
We want you to enjoy your trip to Europe. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of stops to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.
- Do you take children on your tours?
We're unable to permit children under 18 years old on our Europe tours due to the nature of the activities that are included.
- What are 'included activities' and 'optional activities'?
We've arranged experiences for you on your tour. The 'included activities' are already booked and paid for as part of your trip, whereas you can purchase 'optional activities' while on your tour. You also have free time in many destinations to pick and choose which attractions you visit.
- Do we need to bring our own lunch?
You don't need to pack or bring along food on the mini-coach. We stop in small European towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.
- What should I do if I have too much luggage?
It’s more enjoyable to travel with light luggage. You can take less by cleaning clothes along the way. Most hotels provide affordable laundry service.
But if you're travelling with more than 20kg, don't worry! There are left luggage facilities close to the majority of our departure points, and courier companies who could ship your excess luggage on to your chosen destination. Our team are happy to help if you need any suggestions or recommendations.
- Should I tip the driver and the guide?
Let's be honest, our drivers and guides would never refuse a cheeky bonus. But it's up to you, and the amount is entirely at your discretion.
- What about travel insurance?
We highly recommend you take out travel insurance, so you can enjoy a stress-free journey.
