Morning

Edinburgh to Lindores Abbey Distillery, Fife

Today, you embark on a journey through Scotland with a quest to learn more about whisky, or as we call it, "uisce beatha"—the "water of life." Leaving Edinburgh, we travel over the Queensferry Crossing, enjoying views of the iconic Forth Rail Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We journey through the Kingdom of Fife, graced with rolling hills and fertile farmlands to our first distillery of the day: Lindores Abbey.

Mid Morning

Lindores Abbey Distillery, Fife

The oldest written reference to whisky mentions Lindores Abbey and the Cistercian monks, who were among the first to distill spirits in Scotland in the late 15th century. Explore this modern Scottish distillery, built on the site of the first recorded distiller in the country in 1494. Discover the area's rich historical legacy, combined with innovative and sustainable practices, all reflected in their fine Lowland whisky.

Afternoon

Travel through Cairngorm National Park to the Whisky Castle

Continuing north, watch the scenery transform into forested hills and mountains in Perthshire. The journey features classic Highland landscapes as we approach Cairngorms National Park, heading toward Braemar for lunch. This charming village has close ties to the British royal family. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert fell in love with the area and purchased nearby Balmoral Castle, which remains a private residence today. Next, you will visit the Whisky Castle, a whisky emporium that has been selling fine malt whiskies for over 120 years, with an impressive selection of over 600 malts. Enjoy tasting three Speyside whiskies to appreciate the distinct flavours of the region.

We leave Grantown-on-Spey and journey to the first distillery of the day: Cardhu.

Cardhu has come a long way in 200 years, evolving from a humble piece of farmland to a producer of beloved Speyside malt whisky. Discover the stories of Helen Cumming, a pivotal figure in the distillery's success, and learn how Cardhu became a key component in popular blends like Johnnie Walker. Most importantly, embark on their Flavour Journey tour and whisky tasting, where you'll savour three drams of their whisky and a highball cocktail. Warmed up after your first tasting, we travel to Aberlour for lunch.

Afternoon

Lunch in Aberlour, exploring distilleries and Speyside

After lunch in nearby Aberlour, we travel along the Spey River to Craigellachie for a visit to the Speyside Cooperage, where you see another aspect of the whisky making process. This is one of the last barrel-making places in Scotland that still uses traditional methods as well as modern techniques. From shaping to charring, learn the secrets of the craft that goes back 5,000 years as you explore this unique place. The last stop gives you yet another whisky experience. We travel to Cragganmore Distillery. As part of your guided tour, you'll visit one of the warehouses where you'll draw and enjoy a small taste of a duty paid cask, followed by a tutored nosing and tasting.

FAQ

Hello curious traveller, are you ready to go beyond with us? Whether you're heading to the Highlands, the Lake District, or further; we know you might have a few questions before setting off on your adventure. Our FAQs are here to help make your journey smooth and stress-free.

Do you offer hotel pickups in the departure cities?

The UK and Ireland's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure, we only pick up from our central meeting points. What's more is leaving the city using the most direct route also reduces the carbon footprint of our tours.

Is there parking close to the departure point?

We don't recommend bringing your car into the centre of our departure cities. It can be hard to find parking, and there are excellent public transportation services.

When should I get to the departure point?

Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, we can't wait for you if you're late.

Do I need a visa or travel authorisation to go on a Rabbie’s tour?

Entry requirements vary depending on your nationality, personal circumstances, and the country or countries you will travel to and transit through. It is your responsibility to ensure you have all relevant documentation required for your selected itinerary and that you meet all formal entry requirements before travelling.

You can find up-to-date and reliable information on the official tourism website of the counties you’re visiting, or from their embassy or consulate.

What happens if I'm late or miss the tour?

If you're late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies. 100% charges are applicable, and you will not be entitled to a refund or alternative.

What are your cancellation policies?

Cancellation terms depend on which tour you've booked:

1 Day Tours
You'll receive a full refund if you cancel 24 hours or more before the tour departure.

2 - 9 Day Tours
You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 15 or more days before the tour departure.

10+ Day Tours
You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 21 or more days before the tour departure.

Package tours
You'll receive a 90% refund if you cancel 56 days or more before the tour departure.

If you cancel inside these notice periods, full charges will apply and no refunds will be issued.

To cancel your booking please email tours@rabbies.com as soon as possible. The effective date of cancellation will be the date we receive written confirmation from you.

Can itineraries change?

Your tour will always follow the itinerary as closely as possible. Your driver-guide will keep you up to date on the road, and we'll try to get in touch about any large changes prior to your departure.

What is a guaranteed departure?

It's simple: you book, you go. This means we'll never cancel your tour because of a minimum numbers policy.

Can I pre-book a specific seat?

Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable 16-seat mini-coaches have huge windows. So, you'll always get a good view.

Are there toilets on the bus?

We like to keep our coaches small and nimble. This means we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you frequently stop in local towns and villages for comfort breaks.

Do you take children on your tours?

We regret we don't carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours. Also, some of our tours that focus on whisky experiences are suitable for travellers aged 18+.

You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know, so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.

How much time do I get off the bus?

We want you to enjoy every country you visit with us. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.

How does accommodation work?

Accommodation is a key part of your multi-day tour experience. Where accommodation is not included as part of your tour you will have the free option to have us reserve rooms on your behalf (Reserved by Rabbie's) or server your own accommodation with a venue of your choosing (Tour Only).

You don't need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.
