You depart Edinburgh and travel west. This part of your journey is a history lover’s dream. You pass Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, and Doune Castle, before stopping in Callander for refreshments.
Next, we venture north through the splendid scenery surrounding Loch Lubnaig and up to the wild desolation of Rannoch Moor.
You continue through the spectacular mountain pass of Glencoe, scene of the great massacre of the Clan MacDonald in 1692. And after lunch we pass Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and head into the Great Glen. Travelling west you head past the Five Sisters of Kintail.
You then stop at the famous Eilean Donan Castle*, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. Crossing over the bridge to Skye, you follow the dramatic coastline, towards the island’s capital, Portree. And after all this breath-taking beauty, you’re dropped off at your accommodation in the early evening with enough time to go out and explore the town.
Today is a flexible day on Skye; and your driver-guide ensures you take a unique route that suits the weather, the local events, and your group's interests.
You can travel north to the Trotternish Ridge and beyond. Here you find the geological wonders like Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the stunning mountain pass of the Quiraing. Or your guide may take you back in time and teach you about the legends and clan culture surrounding the 13th-century home of the Clan MacLeod, Dunvegan Castle.
You return from to Portree in the evening.
You travel south through the Cuillin Hills and back over to the mainland for stunning views over Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail.
You visit Loch Ness for lunch and the chance to spot "Nessie"! Heading south through the Grampian mountains along Loch Laggan, famous now as "Monarch of the Glen Country" before passing Dalwhinnie and onwards past Blair Castle.
We stop for refreshments in one of the Perthshire villages before heading past Perth, over the Forth Road Bridge, and back to Edinburgh.
Okay, apologies that this is written 11 months after our tour to Skye last June! This tribute or heartfelt thank you note should have been sent last year (2019) in June, when it was my good fortune to have Iain Farrell as my/our tour guide on our few days out to Skye from Glasgow! Mr. Farrell is everything one could ask for in a tour guide! An absolutely super-knowledgeable mind and soul. A deep man, a kind man, a thoughtful man, a sharing-of-wonderful-stories-and-knowledge man! We found ourselves (my wife, 12-year-old daughter, and me) looking forward to each outing and time spent in the bus learning about this fantastic land (Scotland), about the Highlands, geology, biology, and history! Iain is a delightful, funny, and sweet gentleman – a perfect ambassador to share Scottish culture and folklore. He also had wonderful and appropriately selected music for us to listen to at different stages of our tour, which alas was too short (3 days if I recall). An absolute delight was listening to how he prepared us for each of the sights along the way by a sweetly constructed narrative of some historical fact of relevance. I am 59 years old! I have NEVER had a tour guide whom I liked as much and who has made such a positive impression on me as Iain did. My regret: I didn’t let him know this. I meant to write a note at the Rabbie’s site right after I got back to Austin, Texas but never did. Now, in these bizarre covid-19 virus days, I am slowing down and thinking about everything a bit more. And I thought to post this note or ask someone at Rabbie’s to share this with Iain (I’m not any social media platform). I’m guessing that Rabbie’s tours are on hold these days. I hope Iain and all you fine folks at Rabbie’s are hanging in there and will survive these times. Thank you, Iain. Be well. – Lexie, Cecilia and Lance from Austin, Texas
Had a great time on the 3 day tour of Isle of Skye! Our driver/guide, Catty, was amazing - her knowledge of the history and stories to go with them were endless. Made the trip so much fun and interesting. The BB in Portree, the Portree Guest House, could use a little TLC in some areas but was still comfortable. Thank you Catty for an unforgettable trip!
To me personally travelling means traversing not only three dimensional geographic space, but traversing the single dimension of time. Rabbies are doing an excellent job in bringing closer the unique subjective experience of four dimensional continuum into travelers lives. Dave Fletcher, our friendly, hospitable, welcoming guide whisked us safely through 500 odd miles of Scottish geographic space, introduced us to the most picturesque spots and breath taking views of his homelands landscape. Though not travelling at the speed of light in his “ Rabbies space shuttle” , Dave helped me to pause, reflect upon and slow down a bit more, the flow of my holiday time amassed away from the mundane routine of Londons rat race. Thanks to Daves engaging storytelling, we travelled back through centuries of Scottish abundant, historical landscape. He introduced us to Highlands cultural heritage, local communities and the centuries of team work, helpfulness and hospitality ingrained into the local cultural landscape as a matter of survival. Culture of any spacetime reflects ancestral experience gained on that journey through millenia of time dimension passed through that particular territory. It helps us grasp who we are and where we are going. And at the same time ancient legends of Highland clans act as Memento Morris, a reminder for a modern traveller to never underestimate the dangers of the wilderness and void of Scottish mountains. I felt that Rabbies tours play a pivotal role in the preservation of unique and varied identities and to fend them from Kelpies of globalisation. To explore different cultures, contribute to local communities, observe, learn and preserve the uniqueness of their experience nowadays becomes more important than ever. Many thanks Dave, for your help to make me understand how the Scottish universe works on the big and small level. It was a very enriching experience indeed. Thank You also from Alpana and Riz.
Gav was an excellent guide. He has great instincts on timing and on reading the group dynamic. We were hesitant about signing up for a group tour (we’re introverts) but we were grateful for Gav’s driving skills, insider knowledge, and for the overall carefree (and unforgettable) experience.
How fortunate to have been assigned the Isle of Skye tour with Ross, a Master Storyteller with a quick wit and the patience of a saint. As we were transported back in time through the Highlands on our way to Skye, Ross mesmerized us with tales of Scotlands glacial birth and turbulent past. The Highlands are simply stunning and this tour gave us the comfort and time to enjoy its splendour. The lodgings arranged by Rabbies were wonderful. I really enjoyed the hospitality shown and the full Scottish breakfast. Rosss mission was to enlighten with humour, one tour at a time, all things Scottish. The tartan story just one reason a tour can dispel old notions. Best of all, Rosss love for Scotland is evident in the music he assembled for his narrative and in his passion in revealing this place he calls home.
My kids and I recently went on the 3-day Isle of Skye and Highlands Tour. We loved every second of it! Not only did we luck out with picture-perfect weather all three days, but we hit the jackpot with our guide, Mackenzie (Mac). Mac made this trip, hands down. From the moment he greeted us wearing a kilt at the pick up stop in Edinburgh to the minute he dropped us off 3 days later, also wearing a kilt, he made sure to entertain us with fantastic tales of Scottish history, witty comments about what we were seeing as we passed miles and miles of open spaces, and stories about men in kilts and why kilts are so cool. He also shared tips about where to eat and where to avoid. Mac went out of his way to make the trip extra special with some fun surprises that werent on the itinerary like a picnic lunch one day vs. going to a restaurant. I could tell he really loves being a guide and I think this photo of him with our group tells the whole story. We are already talking about our next trip to Scotland and which Rabbies tour we want to do next. Again, a huge shout out to Mac for being the best Scottish guide ever! We absolutely loved this part of our holiday.
This was our first group tour and we chose Rabbies because of all the positive reviews we had read on different websites. The tour exceeded our expectations, from the comfortable coach to the worry free accommodations that were made for us, and of course the spectacular sights along the way. What made the tour truly outstanding was our guide, Charlie. He was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable, warm and fun we couldnt have had a better experience.
Took the tour and was impressed with the knowledge that CATTY had and gave us once we were out of Edinburgh. We got a see a Hairy Que Lealt and Mealt falls The Stevenson lighthouse - lots of steps Going on the Turntable ferry was quite an experience The Isle of SKYE is amazing. The SYKE Hideaway was a very comfortable BB Appreciated the various stops along the way including seeing Ben Nevis - - - would have been willing to leave earlier to be able to see Sterling Castle at a closer distance
A great three day trip with superb weather to see some truly amazing places in the Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Sharon was a great host/driver and guide. The stories of the history and legends of the Highlands, that she shared with us, made the trip that much more memorable. We truly felt her passion and commitment to making the trip an incredible experience for us. She did this while also managing a challenging dynamic with some members of our tour, who did not behave very respectfully. Well done Sharon, you are a true professional. Because of you, we will not hesitate to go on another Rabbies tour In the future and will be recommending to all our Canadian friends who are planning to travel to the UK and Ireland. Cheers.
We had such a great time with Rabbies this past weekend. Definitely would go again. Adam was an incredible guide.

The UK and Ireland's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure, we only pick up from our central meeting points. What's more is leaving the city using the most direct route also reduces the carbon footprint of our tours.
We don't recommend bringing your car into the centre of our departure cities. It can be hard to find parking, and there are excellent public transportation services.
Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, we can't wait for you if you're late.
If you're late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies.
We have a cancellation period of 48 hours for our one day tours, 15 days for two to nine day tours, and 21 days for 10+ day tours. If cancelled outside this period, we'll give you a full refund minus a 10% admin charge. If you cancel inside this period, refunds are at our discretion. Click here to view full terms and conditions.
It's simple: you book, you go. This means we'll never cancel your tour because of a minimum numbers policy.
Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable 16-seat mini-coaches have huge windows. So, you'll always get a good view.
Unfortunately, we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you'll have regular comfort breaks.
We aim to accommodate everyone. To read more information on how we do this, click here to go to our accessibility guide.
We regret we don't carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours.
You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know, so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.
We want you to enjoy Britain and Ireland. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.
We exclude visitor attractions in your tour price because it lets you travel your way. It means you can pamper yourself with a luxury lunch or skip an attraction whenever you feel like it.
You don't need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.
Let's be honest, our driver-guides would never refuse a cheeky bonus. But it's up to you, and the amount is entirely at your discretion.
We advise you take out travel insurance.
You're protected by ABTOT when you chose to let us reserve your accommodation on a multi-day tour. This means you can claim back anything you've paid us if we become bankrupt. Read our terms and conditions for more information.
