You can admit it.
When you read Harry Potter you dreamed of becoming a wizard. And who wouldn’t? Casting spells, reading magical books, and flying on broomsticks would be incredible.
And although this dream may never happen, on this tour we can give you the next best thing. We take you to the setting for Hogwarts at Alnwick Castle. It’s a grand castle that’s as magical as it is historically fascinating.
If you’re not into Harry Potter, you’ll still discover gorgeous historic towns, fascinating tales, and beautiful views on this exceptional tour of the borders of Scotland and England.
Students, seniors over 60, and children between 5 and 15 (unfortunately, we don't carry children under 5 years old)
Your tour begins by following the road that connected Caledonia with Roman Britannia.
You stop in Kelso, where you can explore this handsome town and what is thought to be Scotland’s largest market square. You also see the ruins of Kelso Abbey, a reminder of the many ancient conflicts between Scotland and England.
Continuing South, you cross the border and travel to Alnwick Castle, an immense fortification that has stood strong for nearly a millennium.
It was originally built to assert Norman rule over newly conquered lands. But more recently Alnwick Castle and its perfectly manicured gardens have found fame as one of the settings for the fictional Hogwarts school in the Harry Potter movie series.
Book lovers should take the opportunity to explore one of the largest and most impressive second-hand book shops in Britain.
After around three hours at Alnwick, you travel north along the Northumberland Coast, one of the UK’s most outstanding areas of natural beauty. You stop along the way to admire some of the area’s best known beaches, castles, and ancient Border towns.
We re very satisfied about our one day tour to Alnwick castle with Catty. Her knowledge of the country, stories and jokes made it very much worthwhile. We ll certainly recommend Rabbies to our friends.
Our tour was so good. James was an awesome tour guide. He was funny, energetic, knowledgeable and really really cheerful! He really made the experience for us. Thank you James!
Looking for scenic photo spots ? Ask Mike. He has many in store.
I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent tour, led by the excellent tour guide Al, who was fun and full of information. The tour began with a drive through the very picturesque Scottish Borders to the first stop in Melrose. Here we visited the ruins of the once great Abbey and also the gravestone where Robert the Bruce’s heart is buried. Soon after leaving the pretty town of Melrose we arrived at the Scotland/England border, which we crossed on foot, walking over the River Tweed Coldstream Bridge (erected 1763-1766). Al then made a special trip, at my request, to visit the Flodden Battlefield and memorial to the thousands who died on 9th September 1513. The next visit was to Alnwick, where we had several hours to have lunch and visit themagnificent Norman Castle, stately home and filming site of 2 Harry Potter movies. On the way back to Edinburgh we made a short stop in Berwick and then in Dunbar to see the ruins of the Castle which has connections to Mary Queen of Scots. Overall this is an excellent tour for those who love Scottish history, Castles and beautiful countryside.
Highly recommendable day trip - especially with such a competent tour guide as ours: Eric, the Bloodaxe of Viking origins :)) - I did the trip together with my daughers (16 and almost 14) and we all thoroughly enjoyed each stop, the fantastic landscape as well as Eric's singing talent!
