You depart Edinburgh and travel past Linlithgow palace and Stirling Castle. To the north is the National Wallace Monument, which commemorates Scotland's great hero William Wallace.
You pass close to the location where William Wallace defeated the English army in 1297, and after this take a short stop for coffee at Callander.
The scenery changes dramatically as you venture further into the Highlands. The flat plains of the lowlands transform into shimmering lochs, rugged mountains and forest-filled glens. The alluring beauty makes it easy to forget this was once a battleground of the fiercely territorial Highland clans.
You then head down to Scotland's most famous valley, Glencoe, where you’ll be mesmerised by the beautiful cliff faces and steep slopes.
After Glencoe, you enter a deep glacial valley, known as the Great Glen. Passing through the town of Fort William you travel in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, before arriving at Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness.
At 23 miles long and over 700ft deep, Loch Ness is the largest loch by volume in Scotland. The loch is best known for the legendary Loch Ness Monster ("Nessie") and you can take the opportunity to go in search of the monster on a fantastic boat cruise. Or you can simply enjoy the beautiful scenery on the banks.
Fort Augustus boasts the Caledonian Canal, which is a great spot relax and watch the boats sail by. You stop here for nearly 1hour 30min to give you time for lunch and time to take in the scenery around Scotland's most famous loch.
From Loch Ness, you head south through the mountains of the Cairngorms National Park. Your route travels alongside Loch Laggan (the setting for the BBC series 'Monarch of the Glen'), over the Drumochter Pass and past 13th century Blair Castle.
Our driver Sean was amazing and I really had a great time on this tour. Glencoe is unforgettable. I highly recommend this tour :)
Tour Date: May 3, 2017 My family from India were part of this tour. They were not satisfied with the tour at all. The driver didnt allow for boat cruise on Loch Ness as they were stuck in traffic in the morning hours. It was the main attraction that was missed. The bus halted at each spot only for 10 minutes and halted at the last point for the entire 40 minutes. As per my family, the last point had nothing to offer. If that time was utilized in cruise then it would have been worth. Also, they were not asked to enter the castle but only to have a view from outside. We feel cheated as we didnt pay only to sit and enjoy the bus ride!
It was a wonderful 1 day tour on May 4, 2017 Our guide was James he was very funny and nice Thanks james for the interesting stories, we learned a lot and we visited amazing places We loved the tour. We will go back one day and recommend the rabbies tour :)
Great day tour! we saw amazing surroudings and had a wonderful trip with our funny guide Steven! If you get the chance to take the boat on the loch Ness do not hesitate , Shawn will make it so funny in his story about the lake and the famous Nessie! we enjoyed the day discovering Scotland in an other way! thanks
Our Scottish honeymoon was delayed by four years due to work and other commitments. Our guide, Arran, heard that we were on our honeymoon and immediately planned a traditional hand fasting ceremony for us right there on the banks of Loch Lomond. What he couldnt possibly have known was that the one thing Ive always regretted from our wedding four years earlier was not being able to include a hand fasting ceremony to honor my Scottish heritage. That tartan now sits next to the other treasured keepsakes from our wedding as if it were part of the original ceremony. It was completely unexpected and absolutely magical. Thank you so much for making our honeymoon perfect and for granting a brides long lost wish!
My friend and I did the Loch Ness, Glencoe and Highlands day tour on March 19. Its a packed day of seeing some of the highlights of the Highlands. If you want to see the Highlands, but dont have lots of time, this trip is for you. Our guide was Ewan B. and we couldnt have asked for a funnier, more awesome story-teller. We learned so much of Scottish history and Scottish-isms, all thanks to Ewan. Would highly recommend this trip!
Our first introduction to Scotland was made so much better with the inexhaustible information provided by Jeff. The day trip itself was just stunning and it never felt like we were jostling for space with other car loads of people. Cant wait to take the tour again with my husband and kids.
Me and my wife has one of the most memorable trip with Rabbies. Stefan was really very entertaining and had a great knowledge about the history of Scotland. He also had a music playlist which was played as per what he shared the scenery around.
We had a great tour on January 2nd with James. The landscapes are breathtaking! James was so nice and funny, we learnt so much thanks to him. We really enjoyed the stories and ambiance he created. Thank you very much ! We will definitely come back and we highly recommend rabbies tours!
I recently went on this tour and it was amazing!! Aaron was the best guide and was so informative and funny! You see so much in 1 day. It was a long day but Aarons insight and the surreal scenery along the way made the trip so worth it! Highly recommend Rabbies for any tour and will continue to use them in the future!!
