Ein Tag zum Erforschen der Highlights des römischen Britanniens und des Hadrianwalls. Wir führen Sie durch das Herzland des schottischen Grenzgebiets.
- The Scottish Borders
- Carter Bar
- Steel Rigg, Northumberland (Wanderung)
You travel on old Roman Dere Street, which linked the supply ports of the south of England up to modern day Scotland.
Your first stop on this tour is the border town of Jedburgh, a historic burgh dominated by a magnificent 12th century Augustinian Abbey.
On arrival in Jedburgh you may have time to take a short walk through the narrow streets and visit this impressive ruin.
Continuing south we make a stop at the scenic Carter Bar on the edge of the Cheviot Hills. This crossing point between Scotland and England runs close to the ancient Roman road and has formed the border between the two countries for the past 700 years.
The tour continues through the magnificent forests of Northumberland National Park before turning west towards Hadrian’s Wall.
We follow the road that takes us along the south side of the wall, stopping at Steel Rigg. You have time to walk beside the wall and experience the isolation that Roman foot soldiers would have experienced as they guarded their empire from the ‘barbarians’ to the north.
You travel back to Edinburgh via the Galloway hills and Scottish Borders.
This was an amazing tour!! Our guide was Jim. He was awesome! Funny, friendly, and informative! Highly recommend this company!
I did five van tours in five days with several tour companies and my trip with rabbies had the most entertaining guide! James was knowledgeable about a wide range of topics and an excellent story teller! The van was clean and comfortable and James was also a good driver. The stop at the Jedburgh abbey was nice, though the entire town was apparently closed that early on a Sunday morning. But the stops along Hadrian’s wall were amazing and we had plenty of time to explore. The stop at Vindolanda was unexpectedly cool! It’s an active archeological dig of a Roman fort and village with its own guides, a museum, gift shop and cafe. I haven’t been to Rome yet, but I’ve stood on an excavated ancient Roman road! A great trip, great guide and highly recommend!
Have traveled all over the world. Douglas is the best guide I ever had. He is informative and interesting and made the tour an unforgettable success. Thank you Douglas.
We had a brilliant day with Dougie at Hadrians wall. We got to see so much of the wall and Steel Rigg and Vindolanda were amazing. Dougie was very informative and entertaining. Great day out, we would recommend this tour.
Was enchanted by the tour. The guide who called himself Billy was an excellent storyteller. Made history come alive. Really, really excellent job. Recommend him to anyone interested in history. Also a very nice personality.
We recently got back from a family vacation in Scotland. We went on the Hadrians Wall 1 day tour with our family and enjoyed every second. Douglas was brilliant. Extremely knowledgeable and answered any questions you had from soup to nuts. Fantastic story teller and really engaged the group. I would recommend this tour to anyone with a passion for history.
We had a truly wonderful day at the Hadrians Wall! Our tour guide was Jeff and he was marvelous guide, truly knowledgeable, fun to talk to and very considerate. Me and my sister enjoyed this daytrip very much! I could definetely recommend the tour to everybody! Cheers!
Thanks for a memorable one-day tour. The travel time was filled with history, music, and humor. Fergus was a wonderful guide. We learned much about the past and current life of the Wall. The stop at Jedburgh was a great beginning. It would have been nice to have had a little more time there. Vindolanda was a spectacular site to see and a great place for lunch. It was very helpful to have Fergus give us tips and local referrals to follow-up with after the tour ended. Glad to have been part of the experience and would do it again.
The UK and Ireland's historic city centres are full of narrow streets and winding roads. So, to speed up your departure, we only pick up from our central meeting points. What's more is leaving the city using the most direct route also reduces the carbon footprint of our tours.
We don't recommend bringing your car into the centre of our departure cities. It can be hard to find parking, and there are excellent public transportation services.
Arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Due to waiting restrictions, we can't wait for you if you're late.
If you're late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies.
We have a cancellation period of three days for our one day tours, and 21 days for longer tours. If cancelled outside this period, we'll give you a full refund minus a 10% admin charge. If you cancel inside this period, refunds are at our discretion. Click here to view full terms and conditions.
It's simple: you book, you go. This means we'll never cancel your tour because of a minimum numbers policy.
Due to logistical reasons, we're unable to let you pre-book a seat on the bus. But our comfortable 16-seat mini-coaches have huge windows. So, you'll always get a good view.
Unfortunately, we have no on-board toilet facilities, but you'll have regular comfort breaks.
We aim to accommodate everyone. To read more information on how we do this, click here to go to our accessibility guide.
We regret we don't carry children under the age of five on our scheduled tours.
You can ask us about the tours we recommend for younger children. And if your child is less than 1.35m tall, you should let us know, so we can provide them with a suitable booster seat.
We want you to enjoy Britain and Ireland. And we believe the best way to do this is to get you off the mini-coach and out exploring. So, we give you plenty of time to take photos, go walking, and explore ancient ruins.
We exclude visitor attractions in your tour price because it lets you travel your way. It means you can pamper yourself with a luxury lunch or skip an attraction whenever you feel like it.
You don't need to. We stop in small towns, villages, and rural eateries where you can choose whatever meal pleases both your taste buds and your budget.
Let's be honest, our driver-guides would never refuse a cheeky bonus. But it's up to you, and the amount is entirely at your discretion.
We advise you take out travel insurance.
You're protected by ABTOT when you chose to let us reserve your accommodation on a multi-day tour. This means you can claim back anything you've paid us if we become bankrupt. Read our terms and conditions for more information.
