We loved the tour. Doug was knowledgeable, funny, entertaining, kind and a safe driver too! The other passengers were all lovely. Even the weather co-operated mostly. We did stop at a bead with sea stacks - we managed to be there on a perfect day at low tide - that was amazing!

Greetings from Sweden. Just returned from the 5 day tour to the Outer Hebrides. Just like to say that we're really, really pleased with the tour. Beautiful scenery and Doug, our guide, was absolutely brilliant!! Love the cd with the soundtrack of our trip. Enjoy it on a daily basis : ) This is the fifth time we've chosen Rabbies for our holiday and we've been equally satisfied and happy every single time. Very high standard on their service, acommomdations as well as on all their guides. Can certaily recommend Rabbies to all our friends and everyone else thinking about going to Scotland. Thanks alot! We'll be back! /Hans & Inger Ejdung, Sweden

Although I've been back in the US for 24 hrs, in my mind I'm still out on the Hebrides.... This was my first trip to Scotland, and my parents' first trip outside of North America. We chose Rabbies as a compromise to our travel preferences, and it could not have been a better decision. I could write paragraph upon paragraph describing sun breaks slanting off Highland crags, waves rolling onto empty stretches of sand, and ruins with walls crumbling back into the rock from which they rose...but it still wouldn't capture the experience of those 5 days. Instead, I just want to say thank you to Rabbies. You deserve every award that you receive! Thank you to everyone in our group...we enjoyed sharing the experience with you all, and our only regret is that we hopped into a cab so quickly back in Edinburgh that we felt like we didn't really get to say goodbye. And finally, a note about our guide, Doug. The trip would not have been the same without him. Professional, yet fun, knowledgeable, yet always entertaining....I can't say enough. Rabbies is very lucky to have him on the team, and we were very lucky to have our introduction to Scotland through his eyes. He has a passion for his country that is infectious! If I had one complaint, it would be that the tour is just not long enough!! (Maybe extend the trip another day??) Hmmm...well, I guess I can just start planning on another tour next year! And in the meantime, at least I can enjoy Doug's playlist....I wonder if the Peatbog Faeries ever tour the US?! Ps. Doug....I hope that Scotland clobbers Macedonia tomorrow! I'll be checking the Internet for results! :)

Stunning scenery, knowledgable and humorous delivery by guide.

Because the weather was perfect, the beaches became very idyllic, but the entertainment in de bus (stories, legends, general info, music) was a bonus.

This is but a very small selection of the pictures taken on the "Outer Hebrides tour" during the first week of July... Enjoy!

Back in Belgium, listening to the music we heared in the bus and just wanted to thank the entire group and of course our guide Doug for this exceptional tour! See you next year!

My sister Catriona and I enjoyed a fabulous tour recently with Liam as our tour guide/driver. He gave an amazing amount of info about all the places we visited and went 'above and beyond the call of duty' in assisting us to find our old family croft in Upper Barvas. Thanks too, to the rest of our group for being so encouraging and excited for us when we found it it, even though it was sadly neglected. We had a really enjoyable five days.

I must compliment Rabbies on running an excellent tour to the Outer Hebrides. The whole process was done efficiently from the booking by affable personnel to the actual tour. It was an interesting itinerary but more importantly the driver/courier, Doug, added an extra dimension with good humour and guiding that included comments on history, legends and general regional knowledge. Highly recommended.

Doug was an outstanding driver/guide. His breadth of knowledge was amazing, and he was always interesting. One of our main interests was my husband's Isle of Lewis ancestors, and Doug made sure to get us to all the right places and people. We travel a lot, and I would rate Doug as one of the very best guides we have ever had.

My second tour sent me to Seamus, who I would highly recommend to anyone liking a mix of music, broad storytelling, and a wicked sense of humor. I was sincerely sorry to leave this tour to come home! He was sincerely interested in everyone on the tour bus and made sure that we each got the things out of the tour we wanted - for me, it was making sure that we stopped to take photos along the way. THANK YOU!

If anyone has the opportunity to take a ferry crossing with Cal-Mac, be sure to pick up one of the free promotional CD's from their terminals called " The Gaelic Rings ". You will enjoy this photo op of six different venues, or circles. You will see pictures of most all major tour sights in the Western Isles and Western Highlands, as well as listen to native Gaelic speakers present their stories. It is subtitled in English where Gaelic is spoken.

Now that I have had the time to readjust to life back here in the States since the late September tour, I want to personally thank you once again for the professionalism you displayed during the entire trip as both driver and guide. The ferry crossings went smooth for everyone because of this and being able to tend to each particular passenger's needs and quirks is quite a feat. Hope to see you again in the future on another Rabbie's tour. That bloody Gaelic speaking Yank with the Ordnance Survey map, Bob

Thanks Rabbies and especially our tour guides Andrew and then Karen. I told my friends I was on a bus tour..first ever..and senior rate no less. It was truly amazing. The most enjoyable part was definitely the black houses on the Isle of Lewis, but our guide Karen was phenomenal... her knowledge & humour made every part of the tour enjoyable. I only wished I had booked another tour on my trip to Scotland... just fantastic

Andew the courier gave us not only the history of where we were or stopping but gave it with enthusiasm. A wide knowledge not only of the history but from birds plants etc which made it more enjoyable and interesting. He was an excellent courier. We stopped at so many places he thought would be interesting and never hurried us on. We had plenty of time for everything whilst keeping to the schedule. Choice of hotels/guest houses were good and we liked the idea of this.

Stunning countryside where small coaches could venture where larger ones could not.

Day 1 Depart Edinburgh and travel north into the Highlands. First stop will be the historic village of Dunkeld where you will take a short walk through the forest to some waterfalls. Continuing north the route passes through the Grampian Mountains to the Spey Valley where you will stop for lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the world famous Loch Ness then make a short stop in Inverness itself. There will be time for a visit to the impressive waterfalls at Corrieshalloch Gorge before you arrive in the West Coast fishing port of Ullapool for your overnight stay.

Day 2 Catch the morning ferry from Ullapool for the 2 hour sail along Loch Broom, past the Summer Isles then out across the Minch to Stornoway – the main town on Lewis and capital of the Outer Hebrides. Look out for dolphins, whales and seabirds during the crossing. In the afternoon explore the North West coast from Arnol with its historic old “blackhouse”, through traditional crofting townships to Port of Ness and the very north tip of the island – the Butt of Lewis. From the lighthouse here there is nothing between you and the Americas! Overnight in Stornoway.

Day 3 Today will be spent exploring some of the prehistoric remains on the island as well as its finest beaches. The fascinating circular stone fort, or Broch, at Carloway will be your first stop followed by more traditional crofting communities such as Gearrannan and Shawbost. Then it’s on to Callanish with its mysterious ancient stone circle. In the afternoon you will head for the remote district of Uig with its fine, sandy beaches at Bhaltos, dramatic sea cliffs and rugged hills. This is the wilderness of the Western Isles at its finest. Overnight again in Stornoway.

Day 4 Travelling south today from the wild moorlands of Lewis to the more mountainous Harris – almost but not quite an island on its own. Famous for the locally produced cloth, Harris Tweed, it is also home to the highest mountains in the Outer Hebrides and the stunning white sands of Luskentyre. After a morning of exploring South Harris you will stop for lunch in the small port of Tarbet from where you will catch the late afternoon ferry to Skye. Once on Skye it is less than hour to Portree, the island’s main town, and your overnight stay.

Day 5 Departing from Portree the return journey to Edinburgh has many highlights – the Cuillin Mountains, a visit to Eilean Donan Castle, Fort William and the dramatic scenery and dark history of Glencoe. Travelling back south through the Central Highland the last stop of the day will be in Killin beside the Falls of Dochart before returning to Edinburgh.
