Day 1 Departing Dublin you head west through the farmland and peat bogs of counties Kildare and Offally. Our first stop is the Locke’s Distillery – reputedly the oldest legal distillery in the world. Sample the local whiskey and discover the true spirit of Ireland! Further west you will reach the mighty Shannon River and the early Christian site of Clonmacnoise – with its collection of churches, stone crosses and round towers. After an afternoon stop in a traditional pub in the village of Shannonbridge, travel into Galway City for your first night. This lively student town has no shortage of good pubs and restaurants.
Day 2 From Galway City it is only a short drive along the coast to the Burren – one of Ireland’s great natural treasures. This is a land of limestone pavements, barren hillsides, rare flora, early Christian settlements and ancient stone monuments. You will spend most of the morning exploring this unique area. You will then stop in Kilfenora, the “town of the crosses”, for a visit to the old cathedral and lunch in the village. After lunch you will visit the stunning Cliffs of Moher, which drop almost 700 feet straight into the crashing Atlantic waves. Here you can walk the cliff top trails, watch the numerous seabirds or visit the award winning environmental exhibition. From here you travel south through County Clare passing the famous golf course and beach at Lahinch to catch the ferry across the Shannon estuary and into County Kerry to the beautiful lakeside town of Killarney – your base for the next 3 nights. The pubs here are great for food and most have live music in the evenings – your only problem is which one to choose!
Day 3 The tour today will explore the wonderful Dingle Peninsula – one of the most scenic parts of Ireland and a heartland of Gaelic culture and tradition. The first stop of the day is the beach at Inch – a vast expanse of sand facing out into the Atlantic and very popular with surfers. From here increasingly narrow roads lead onto the peninsula itself through the town of Dingle and out to Slea Head. This is an area of ancient forts and dwellings going back thousands of years and you will visit some of the best examples along the way. The views here are impressive with the nearby Blasket Islands rising dramatically from the sea and the mountains of the Ring of Kerry to the south. Weather permitting you will be able to walk on the beaches or along the cliff tops to fully appreciate the fabulous scenery. This area is very important in Gaelic literature and you will learn more during the day. The circuit of Slea Head leads back to Dingle town with its brightly coloured buildings and busy harbour. You will spend the rest of the afternoon here before returning to Killarney. If the weather is good you could take an evening walk in the Killarney National Park – just on the edge of town.
Day 4 Today you will tour one of the world’s classic routes, the Ring of Kerry - 100 miles packed full of interest. After departing Killarney on a clear day there will be views to Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil after which we join the coast road through Glenbeigh and Kells to Cahersiveen. There will be plenty opportunities for photos stops along the way with great views across to the Dingle Peninsula. Possible stops include the Daniel O’Connell’s birthplace and Cahersiveen ring fort before reaching the little fishing village of Portmagee. Here you can relax and sample local seafood for lunch or alternatively cross to the island of Valencia for a visit to the Skellig Experience where you can learn about the nearby rocky islands and the small community of monks who once lived there. In the afternoon you will make photo stops in Waterville - a favourite holiday place for Charlie Chaplin and then at the top of Coonmakista Pass for one of the best views in the country. From here the road drops down to sea level for a visit to Derrynane House – family home of Daniel O’Connell. There are walks in the gardens and down to the beach as well as the house itself. The tour continues on around the Ring with stops at Moll’s Gap and the Ladies View. There will just be time for a short walk to the Torc Waterfall before arriving back into Killarney.
Day 5 Today you will head back east through the mountains of West Cork and the market town of Macroom then along the Lee Valley to Blarney Castle. Here you will have time to visit the castle, explore the woodland walks and mystical Rock Close as well as visiting the village of Blarney itself – a good place for a bite of lunch and a bit of shopping. There may even be the chance to kiss the famous Blarney Stone although in peak season it can be very busy. In the afternoon the tour continues on to the Rock of Cashel with its mediaeval monastery complex sitting high above the town and finally Kilkenny, a bustling city with a fine Castle and Park, riverside walks, the National Craft Centre and plenty pubs for one last Guinness before hitting the road again for the last leg of a wonderful journey arriving back into Dublin about 19.30

Stunning scenery, lots of laughter and driven by a Leprechaun-in-disguise, Kevin. Stopped to take photos of every lamb on the Dingle Peninsula! "Specials" for me: paddling on the Dingle beaches, The Burren with its wild flowers, Clonmacnoise, outdoor music at Galway, Torc Waterfalls and the lakes at Killarney National Park. So much to see, too little time! Thanks to Kevin and my fellow travellers for a great trip.

Our driver Tiegh (not sure of spelling) was excellent. He was interesting and had a superb knowledge of Ireland's history. He was helpful and professional with a wonderful sense of humor. He really made the trip special.

I was on the 'Escape to the West 5 Day Tour of Ireland' (with Joan Werth) from 4th to 8th September, 2011, and was one of the two 'lovely Australians' referred to. I hadn't been on a tour in years (1970's. I think) and had no first hand knowledge of Rabbies but, one of the reasons I chose them was their '16 person maximum' policy and we were lucky, as we had only eight. We all got on amazingly well, like one big family, with the eldest being 80 - one of the 'three crazy Canadians' - and the youngest being 21. Betty (the 80 year old) was an inspiration to us all and missed out on nothing - she certainly kept me going when my energy was failing! Our driver, Tagh O'Brien, was great - very professional and knowledgeable, loads of fun, a great joke teller and competent judge of the limerick competition!! To all my friends (Joan (great photos), Colleen & Jacqui, Betty, Judy & Alan, Dora and, last but not least, Tagh) I wish you all the best and, like Joan, miss each and every one of you. I would certainly recommend Rabbies to anyone that asked. .

Our guide's knowledge, stories, and jokes were the best part of the trip.

Tadgh O'Brien made the trip extra special. He is knowledgeable and made the trip fun and a great learning experience. I know you are new to Ireland and Tadgh was a great find for you. I emailed Rabbie's after the tour specifically to compliment Tadgh. The group size was also tremendously enjoyable, a smaller group made it enjoyable because we all got to know each other and interacted together.

I just returned from my third Rabbie's tour. Two were in Scotland, the most recent was a five day tour of Ireland with Tadgh our driver, three crazy Canadians, two lovely Australians, a wonderful mother and daughter from America, and myself (also an American). The trip was fantastic and Tadgh was wonderful. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone thinking about traveling to Ireland. Hello to my traveling companions, I miss you guys already.

We only had 4 people so our driver/guide Shane Murphy made some accomodations/changes that were all very much to our liking. For example, we got back earlier one day to visit Mucross House in Killarney.

Our Drivers Shane and Michael were so enthusiastic and knew so much about the West of Ireland. Their in depth knowledge of the West of Ireland meant that we were able to enjoy breath taking sights we did'nt know existed. They made the Tour brilliant!

Both Shane & Michael were able to tell us about the history of the places we were seeing and gave us insights into the Irish both past and present. It made all our stops and the sights we saw along the way more enjoyable. The tour was a good mix of nature and history, loved the beaches.

Robin and Suu and the whole Rabbies team deserve to be proud of this new addition! I am a seasoned Rabbies traveler in Scotland and even a foray into England (horrors!). This new Ireland tour lives up to Rabbies well deserved standards of excellence in every aspect! Five amazing days with Michael our guide and driver; Irish by birth and proud of his heritage he kept us informed and entertained with personal stories and historic lore every minute of the tour. I have previously traveled in Ireland myself, yet Michael took us to out of the way places I never would have thought to go on my own. Even taking us on a road marked “closed.” He laughed and said “the locals put up the signs to keep people out” – and we discovered a breathtaking drive not even the Irish get to see. Ireland is beautiful and rich in heritage and we didn’t miss much. The tour is masterfully engineered so always had plenty of time to explore at the stops and at night as well. Ever town has traditional music and “great craic.” The accommodations were always top notch and very reasonable! When we would stop for the night Michael gave us a tour of the town pointing out the best pubs and entertainment venues before leaving us on our own. I highly recommend this new Rabbies tour!! The Euro is a bargain and the Guinness is always good. Go!!!!

Hi folks, first things first - there is no subject available for that tour from Tour-title scroll list. Anyway, it was Rabbies first tour to Ireland so You still need some adjusting ;-) I am a seasoned Rabbies traveller, it was my fifth tour in three years, and I don't speak any day trips. You can call me a fan of those kind of trips where I always felt treated special and beeing taken carte of (forgive my grammar, english is not my native tongue). It was my first trip to Ireland as well, so I was in an adventourous mood. And of course it was very impressive. Too short to see everything, as supposed, and packed with so many things to see and learn. Michael, our driver and a Kerryman, as he always pointed out, is very talkative and of great knowledge and not a bit shy to share his personal story of life with us customers, which of course make it twice as interesting. The 5-day-trip can of course only touch the surface of everything, but the route is carefully chosen, spiked with a lot of highlights. This goes for places to eat and for accomodations as well. It was a special time this trip had, since Queen Elisabeth II had chosen this time to come to Ireland - she crossed our path but once (but tested Michael's abilities in Dublin). So we were very close to this special moment in the life of the Irish people. Unfortunately Dingle peninsular refused to lift its veil of fog to us - we had to trust the driver that something like Skerrig Michael really exists ;-) Sometimes he had us back in the bus faster then he had thought of because of the weather ;-) Very interesting places to see and visit: beehive houses from ancient times, early medieval churches not a bit taller, great (and tall) castles and gardens, small towns with their unique athmosphere. I might have been grinning all the time - the pictures says so. It will be very difficult to select just 10 for the album - I have 640 now in the slideshow! We had a nice group of just 9 persons from overseas plus us two Germans. Michael, our driver and a Kerryman, as he always pointed out, is very talkative and of great knowledge and not a bit shy to share his personal story of life with us customers, which of course made the tour twice as interesting. Laura from Rabbies was with us to make sure everything goes well and in my opinion, it did, did it not? She is some special person as well, it's great to get to know her as well. I give the hug back with this! Now, I look up to Rabbies next destination (the island of Malta would be great, warm and sunny for a change) See You on whatever next trip! Yours, Britta
