Isle of Skye & the Highlands 3 Day Tour
3 days to explore some of the most dramatic and beautiful places in the Highlands and the romantic island of Skye. Highlights also include Glencoe, Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle and the 5 Sisters of Kintail.
Please phone us if date you want to travel is unavailable to book online.
Day 1 Depart Edinburgh at 09.00 and travel west passing Linlithgow Palace and Stirling with its imposing castle and views of the Wallace Monument. You pass Doune Castle, set of Monty Python's "Holy Grail" before stopping in Callander for refreshments. Crossing into the Highlands you head north towards the glorious scenery surrounding Loch Luibnaig then through Breadalbane (meaning the ‘high country of Scotland’) and up to the wild desolation of Rannoch Moor. You continue through the spectacular mountain pass of Glencoe, scene of the great massacre of the Clan Macdonald in 1692. Leaving Fort William after lunch you drive past Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and into the Great Glen. Travelling west on the "Road to the Isles" you head through the splendour of the Five Sisters of Kintail, the mountains guarding the pass on the way to the Isle of Skye. You stop to visit the famous Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, set at the junction of 3 lochs and completely surrounded by water. Crossing over the bridge to Skye, you follow the dramatic coastline north towards the island’s capital, Portree. You are then dropped off at your accommodation in the early evening where you are free to go out and explore the town.
Day 2 is a very flexible day on Skye. There are many possibilities depending on the weather and your driver/guide's knowledge will come to the fore in developing the best day out for you on that particular day. North of Portree is the Trotternish ridge with its spectacular cliffs and rock formations, such as the famous landmark – the Old Man of Storr, the impressive sea cliff, Kilt Rock and the stunning mountain pass of the Quiraing. Amazing natural scenery, which is best enjoyed away from the bus by taking a walk through this unique landscape. Further west the scenery changes again with the emerald green valley of Glendale, the dramatic sea-cliffs of Neist Point (the most westerly point on the island, where you might get lucky and spot some whales or sharks!), and the 13th-century home of the Clan Macleod, Dunvegan Castle. You return to Portree in the evening.
Day 3 You will be collected from your accommodation and travel south through the Cuillin Hills and back over to the mainland for stunning views over Loch Duich and the 5 Sisters of Kintail. Onto Loch Ness for lunch and the possibility of spotting "Nessie". There is a boat trip (Summer only) available here that will get you that bit closer! Heading south now through the Grampian mountains along Loch Laggan, famous now as "Monarch of the Glen Country" before passing Dalwhinnie, home to Scotland's highest whisky Distillery, and onwards past Blair Castle stopping for refreshments before heading back to Edinburgh past Perth and over the Forth Road Bridge. Arriving at 19.00 approx.

Thanks to Michael for such a nice tour. It's a tough job talking sensibly while driving --- but he pulled it off.

Thanks to our driver and guide Liam, my wife Meredith and I had an absolutely unforgettable tour through the Highlands and on Skye! Scotland's beauty is breathtaking and unparalleled, and Liam is a master at creating an authentic and very enjoyable experience in his home country which he is no doubt fiercely proud of! Not only does he inform thoroughly during the tour in a highly entertaining and descriptive manner, he is a very friendly and hospitable young man who made each of us feel not as tourists but as honoured guests. I highly recommend he receive special commendation from Rabbie's for his exemplary service!

The tour was excellent and met all my expectations. What a wonderful country ! Ross did a great job, even though our group was not the merriest bunch. Thank you Ross for making us discover the magnificent Highlands and its history. I enjoyed listening to your stories and your music so much, while having the best view sitting in front with you. Good luck with your projects. Elaine

This was our second tour with Rabbies (our first was a day trip to Roslyn Chapel - excellent!) and our second tour guide. Given the fact that the people on our bus did not really mesh well our guide Richard did a fabulous job of teaching us and keeping the mood upbeat for all three days. I bought a package tour and the B&B Rabbie's chose for us was delightful! I would choose Rabbie's again in a heartbeat!

Nice and beautiful tour - just sitting comfortable viewing wonderful surroundings and listen to Ross interesting and amusing stories!

First of all, the trip was amazing! Scotland is the most beautiful place that I've already visited!
I would like to know the name of the song that Angela put a lot of times to us on the trip. I don't know how to explain, but this song is a quite famous.
Could you try to remember please?
Thank you very much for everything!

We really recommend the tour, we had a wonderful time, we´ve seen so much of Scotland and learnt a lot about Scottish history, seen beautiful castles and charming landscapes... and the guide was fantastic as well, he was funny and he was telling a lot of interesting things about Scotland and places we visited. We had a great holiday!

The weather was amazing! Really enjoyed all the sights that Scotland has to offer.
The guide Don has many wonderful stories that made the bus ride totally enjoyable. Unfortunately he spoke of so many tales that I don't remember all of them :(
Hope Don can publish a book soon!

Great tour, great scenery, great people, great haggis :) Thank you Richard the Great! Thank you for the interesting history and quite a bit of Scotland today, too. Thanks for going the extra mile to take Riitta to her meeting. At home we did as you suggested, had friends over to look at our photos of the tour, had some great music (thanks for that also) and had 'a wee dram' of Talisker. We'll never forget our tour and will definitely be back for the fourth Rabbies tour. Hopefully soon.

This tour, so expertly and entertainingly presented by Ross, was a delightful and memorable introduction to Scotland. His love for Scotland was evident in the stories he weaved, the history he imparted, the music he shared, and the nooks and crannies of Skye (as well as the way up and back) he showed us. Our hotel was wonderful. And we shared the bus with twelve lovely people from different places. Great time! Great tour! We will return to Rabbies for future adventures and will definitely recommend Rabbies to our friends and family.

This was the best tour we have ever had. The weather co operated. Eddie said that that was his doing, but that is the only thing that he told us that we doubted. His knowledge of the places both public and well hidden was extraordinorary. His story telling whether about history or fairies was worth the price of the trip alone. I was never sure where fact shaded into fairy tale, and that made it all the better. He was organized, professional, and always gracious. I could never have found those places on my own. We will be back

Well, let me just say that I would come back to Scotland in a heart beat. After a scary start with Valerie 'misplacing' her purse at Starbuck's across the street. . .the rest of the holiday was FANTASTIC!! Richard sure knows his stuff. I am looking at bringing my husband back with me for the same tour and I hope that Richard will be our guide. Not only does he know his history, he is quite witty and funny!! I thank Caroline, Laura and the other wonderful girl (name escapes me but gave her some Swiss chocolate). What a fantastic Team you have at Rabbie's. I can't talk enough about you!! Thanks for everything and God Bless. . .by the way, Val and I did get our Scottish Thistle Tattoo! If I figure out how to download our pix than you will be able to see it.
Hugs and kisses

Triss and I enjoyed our tour of the Isle of Skye very much. Ross, the tour guide, was very courteous, informative, open to questions and comments. He kept the tour moving at all times. His knowledge of the history, geography and environment was outstanding. All given with the appropriate amount of humor. He took time to see to our needs both as a group and individually. We would highly recommend him and wish e the best for him.

Just wanting to say that we had a great 3 day tour to Isle of Skye this week. Alec our guide was great, lots of information but not rabbiting on too much and his choice of music mellow. The group was small and chilled which allowed us to absorb the surrounds. The weather was all seasons in one day as you would expect, and the scenery was spectacular. This wasn't my first visit to Skye and won't be my last. Thanks Alec

We highly recommend the 3-day trip to Skye, or any other trip with Derek as the tour guide. He has an incredible ability to tell stories about the land and the history of Scotland; he also has a great sense of humor. He went out of his way to make the trip a very pleasant experience.

I just wanted to say my husband and I had a wonderful time on the tour. Our guide Ross was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and had a lot of interesting information about the history and places we visited. There were so many beautiful places we visited and our guide new all the best places to stop so we could take photos. Our accommodations were very hospitable and comfortable. Thanks Ross for your kindness and for making the tour such a memorable experience.

Thanks for Ross for being such a wonderful tour guide. He is very thoughtful and accommodating - especially on last day when he ensured that we can catch our flight to London in spite tight time line.
Thanks again. I highly recommend your tour to everyone.

We went on the Ilse of Skye with Eric, July 22-24th. Absolutely fanatastic,! Eric made the trip interesting with his incredible knowledge of history, his singing and commentary. Thanks so much Eric for making this trip worthwhile. Not only that, but he was very safety minded in navigating the roads and made the trip a pleasure!

This 3 day tour of isle of skye was lovely, neist point is a must do on the trip! Alec our driver was awesome..very knowledgeable in Scotland's history and also funny! His jokes managed to keep us awake during the tour.
Our accomodation arrangements was fantastic - we stayed at Tor Nan Gillean and the view of the sea from our room was beautiful! The host was also very friendly and helpful.
Bathroom and lunch stops were frequent and more than adequate.
Overall, I recommend using rabbies since the group size is small enough to pretty much do whatever you like. The tour guides are excellent!

Karen’s whisky tour is like no other Rabbie’s tour I have ever encountered. And I have been on most every one of them over the years. Karen immediately bonded the group together and by the end of first day one we were all fast friends. Suu was able to put us all into the fabulous Bowmore Cottages on Islay. None of us went on this tour to rest, so not much sleeping was to be had. From the late night dinners, wee drams and pints to the early community self catered Full Scottish Fry Up’s . . . every day we all had a bonding -blast together. Now Karen, our guide, left no stone unturned in our quest to discover Islay and all points in between. Her Celtic knowledge, sense of humor and magnetic personality are all exceptional! Karen’s free spirit infected everyone and there were many long good byes salted with tears when we all finally parted at Waverly. She alone made the tour outrageously fantastic. I can only hope my future tours with Rabbie’s will be as enlightening, fun and entertaining as the Islay tour with our Bonnie Karen. [Oh yes, Suu I will be back!!], I miss all of you already…. Especially you-know-who and my long lost Brother Chris!!! Can we do it all again next year??? Next Month ??? Tomorrow???
The Chef (extra bacon for you Katha? …Noooooooo Problem!!)

Just back from Isle of Skye 3 day tour and it was fantastic. Our driver Liam was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble for him, all our questions were answered and he was a genuinely nice person.
The trip was amazing, our fellow passengers were a great bunch from all over the world. The scenery was fantastic and we were lucky enough to have great weather. Plenty of photo stops and plenty of Scottish History (more than I was taught at school in Glasgow). I would recommend this trip to everyone. Planning another Rabbies tour already. Keep up the good work Rabbies, and a special thank you to Liam.

That was one of the best experiences in our life. The landscapes were just not of this world, and our guide, Pete, was very nice and wise! He entertained us and taught us a lot of things. We were a bit afraid because we are not native english speakers, but we undertood everything he told!
We are now really lookig forward to going back to Scotland and taking another tour with Rabbie's.
Thank you very much for everything!

Just returned from the most wonderful experience of our first ever visit to Skye. Pete our guide contributed magnificently to this experience. He was so knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. Even though we live in Scotland, we learnt such a lot from his chat that linked to history, royalty, films, the environment and what ever he could think of. We made new friends from overseas, our accommodation was just the ticket and the weather was just glorious. What more could we ask for. Would recommend to anyone. Were be back.

We had an excellent guide and driver (Peter). He had a wonderful knowledge and was very helpful. I would certainly recommend your companyl. We had a most enjoyable week-end - even the weather was perfect.

We went on this 3 day tour during May Spring Bank Holiday 2009. The weather was not on our side for most of the tour - there was very poor visibility, strong winds and rain throughout our tour. Inspite of that our tour guide tried his best to keep us entertained and make the tour enjoyable. His sense of humour and excellent local knowledge helped us through the 3 days. He mentioned about this blog and said that if there is something good to write, his name is Eric and if I have to write something nasty his name would be Mac. So here's something for both Eric and Mac.
Eric - He has excellent knowledge of the places he took us to visit. Unlike most tourist guides who talk a lot of rubbish, Eric's presentation was actually very well researched. The stories he told us were actual facts and quite accurate too. His presentation style is very captivating and his local knowledge is astonishing. Thanks to his local information, we went to a restaurant the first evening in the Isle of Skye where the Accordion and Fiddle Club of Skye were playing. That was quite a memorable night of rich Scottish music for my wife and me. I think we will cherish that evening for as long as we remember our trip to Scotland.
Mac - Although the tour was well managed, during the last stage of the trip our guide seemed to have lost his control over our group of 15. There were long delays in 2 stops in a morning which resulted us not being able to visit a distillery in the afternoon. I was so looking forward to this distillery visit. Our guide did not fore warn us that delays in the morning could result in us paying this heavy penalty. I wish the last few hours of the tour was as enjoyable as the 2 and 1/2 days that we had so much fun.

hi. i was in the group of 15-odd people on this highly enjoyable tour. a word of praise for tony - he was very well informed and very accommodating. a question for him, and a reply would be truly appreciated: on the cd he was playing, which is the band that sings 'baby doll' and 'wish i told you before'? i forgot to ask, and it's killing me!

What a wonderful experience we had with Eddie. He went above and beyond to meet our needs and expectations. Fabulous stories, spectacular scenery and lots of stops to experience the real Scotland. The buses are very comfortable and reasonably sized which makes the group manageable. We will be back and we will ask for Eddie. Thank you Rabbies.

Dear all at Rabbies, Jase and myself would like to say a big think you to Eric our driver for our lovely tour of Scotland and Skye. We managed to fit in so much and felt so refreshed when we arrived back in Edinburgh. Being a scot from Aberdeen unfamiliar with the west coast and Skye and having won our trip in a competition, I learnt a great deal and had a really super time as well. So thank you to Rabbie's and our driver Eric! Elizabeth and Jason

We had a fantastic three day tour to Skye, not only did the SUN SHINE ALL THE TIME, but the whole trip was outstanding because of our tour guide Eric. His knowledge and passion for Scotland inspired us all (including his singing) and made the whole experience one that we will always remember.
As if that was not enough, the whole of the group made it EVEN more special. We all came away with a smile in our hearts and wonderful memories of Skye.
Top marks and more to Eric, there will never be a guide to equal him.

I would like to ask about the accommodation of the tour to Skye. What is the rate for the hostel and B&B. Is it a list of accommodation? Can anyone tell me the names / recommend any so that I can figure out where I should stay for those 2 nights.
Posted on 27/04/2009
Thank you, Eddie, for keeping us all entertained and delighted. Ages ranged from 6 years to 69 years, and we all loved our tour. The weather offered full range - blowing, freezing rain to bright sunshine. The stories took us back in time. Our companions (from all over the world) were delightful and always on time! Now-will you play "Donald, where are your trousurs?" It was a wonderful tour.
Posted on 12/04/2009
We did the 3-day Isle of Skye tour and loved every minute! Tony was our guide and he must be the best one Rabbie's has! His stories were well-told, his stops were well-timed, and he had a wonderful switch that turned off the rain whenever we stopped. Hope the other guides have the same tool. I also appreciated the Celtic music Tony played as we were driving. I will always hear that beautiful music in my mind as I look at the pictures from our trip.

Compared to other tours you get a lot for your money with Rabbies. Tony was very knowledgeable of Scottish History and curious tales.
Isle of Skye is a good choice if you want to get away to the Highlands... the authentic Scotland.
Thanks

The knowledge that the tour guide/driver had was extroardinary. His name was Andrew and his knowledge of Scottish history, culture and people was phenominal. He was most entertaining.

Bus Driver and Guide "Pete" was excellent. Small mini bus was great because we were able to make a lot of stops and go to remote areas that a large coach would not be able to get to.
Posted on 17/06/2009
All the parts of this tour were very enjoyable -- it would be hard to pick a favorite. I really appreciated the skill of our driver, and the opportunity to just enjoy the gorgeous views without having to worry about the "how" of getting there.
Posted on 02/05/2009
Everything was great. The guide, Tony was just fantastic and his knowledge was incredible.
Posted on 02/05/2009
Tour guide was awesome. Historical information was great, stories well-told, scenery incredible, choice of stops excellent. Bed and breakfast excellent.
Posted on 02/09/2008
Tony our driver/host was excellent. He had a great many stories about Scotland, and about the places we were visiting. Great story teller and that made all the difference. He should be given an "employee of the month" award. He went out of his way to solve a battery problem for one of the guests, and did not mind stopping at extra places if there was consensus. The "customising" bit is great and something you should try ot build in more off.
What was also important was that he explained our restaurant choices at each destination!!

Full Tour Itinerary (English)
