Full Tour Itinerary (English)
A grand round-tour of breathtaking views and fascinating places throughout the Highlands of Scotland, from the ancient forests of the Cairngorms, vibrant Inverness - capital of the Highlands, to the majestic splendour of the mountains of Assynt, the romantic beauty of the Isle of Skye and the awe inspiring Glen Coe.

Day 1 takes you north over the Forth Road Bridge to the charming highland village of Dunkeld on the banks of the river Tay. From here you head into the Cairngorm national park and the ancient pine forests of the Rothiemurchus estate. Lunchtime will be spent on the beautiful shores of Loch Insh before a short forest walk takes you to the ruins of Loch an Eilean castle. Panoramic views of Loch Ness follow as you travel down to the banks of the famous loch and the village of Dores where you can do some “Nessie” spotting! Then it’s on to the “Capital of the Highlands”, Inverness, where you will spend two nights.

Day 2 visits the far northwest highlands and the grandeur, expanse and wildness of the mountains of Assynt. Leaving Inverness you take in the drama of the River Droma as it plunges 60m down into the Corrieshalloch Gorge followed by a visit to the fishing village of Ullapool. With visits to the 15th century ruins of Ardvreck Castle, amazing views of some of Europe’s oldest landscapes and the chance of seeing wildlife such as whales and red deer this is sure to be a memorable day.

Day 3 leaves Inverness heading west past the mountains of the Beinn Eighe national nature reserve and along the picturesque coastline of Loch Torridon. The tranquil setting of Applecross is your destination for lunch before taking one of the highest roads in Scotland, Bealach nam Bo (meaning the Cattle Pass), with its jaw-dropping views, hairpin bends and precipitous cliffs. In the afternoon you stop in “tropical” Plockton where you can see palm trees growing alongside Loch Carron and take time to enjoy its sheltered serenity. Then it’s over the sea to Skye and the delightful harbour town of Portree with its friendly welcome.

Day 4 is a very flexible day on Skye. There are many possibilities depending on the weather and your driver/guide's knowledge will come to the fore in developing the best day out for you. For example: travel north to the stunning Quiraing mountain pass and enjoy a spectacular walk through some of Skye's extraordinary geological scenery. Kilt Rock, composed of basalt columns (reminiscent of the pleats in a kilt) with its waterfall cascading over the cliffs and down into the sea below. After lunch you can travel to Neist Point for a walk out to the lighthouse that is the furthest point west on Skye. Or a visit to Dunvegan Castle, ancient ancestral seat of the Clan McLeod. Talisker Distillery is also on Skye, as are the famous Cuillin Hills. We return you to your accommodation in Portree in the early evening for you to enjoy a free evening in the village.

Day 5 takes us south from Skye stopping first at the famous stronghold Eilean Donan Castle, used in the film “Highlander”, set at the head of 3 lochs as protection against Viking raiders. Continuing east through the rugged mountains of Kintail including the splendour of the Five Sisters, you drive down through Glen Garry past Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, then onto Fort William for lunch. In the afternoon you will explore spectacular Glencoe, scene of the infamous massacre of the Clan Macdonald in 1692, before stopping in Killin for refreshments beside the Falls of Dochart, arriving into Edinburgh at 1900 approx.

Fantastic tour in the main areas of the northern Highlands and Skye with spectacular views on lochs, glens, islands.Despite our international group, Eddie provided us with humorous commentaries and a well-selected music. He was a very good and efficient driver and a talented tour-guide. On July 10th my mom and I set out on the five day highland explorer tour. Our tour guide, Liam was wonderful! While we were in the bus he was able to provide a lot of information about the territory we were travelling through, he told excellent stories and at one point he even did a little singing! He played music from the areas we were which added to the overall experience. As I said he was very knowledgable about where we were and he was able to recommend some excellent places to get dinner and lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would recomment this trip to anyone. Cheers, Lindsay and Ellen Fink

Thank you Eddie for one of the most wonderful holidays I have ever had! Scotland itself is absolute awesome but you and your "true" stories really let this trip became a memorable and special experience. And thank you for being so patient listening to our "nice" singing! And thanks to Ross, who was a irreplaceable companion at this tour as well. I promise I'll be back because Scotland casts its spell over me...

Posted on 27/06/2010
Wish we could come right back and do it again.

You owe us your kilt , Mr L

Thanks to Ross and the weather for a great 5 days with magnificent views and entertaining historical anecdotes. We covered a lot of territory. Accommodation and food were excellent too.

Dear Andrew: Many thanks for your kind hospitality and the honour you showed us around the Scotland during our highland trip. My fiancée and I don’t need to tell you how greatly appreciate all you have done for all of us during our trip and how grateful we are for the comfort environment and understanding of highland you gave us. I must say that both my fiancée and I had learned a lot form the trip. Moreover my fiancée is a little bit liable to carsickness and if it had not been for your help, she would not have comfortable journey. Again I wish there were a better word than ‘thanks’ to express our appreciation for your kind guide and timely help. Wish you all the best and my fraternity is way beyond the description that I could possibly give. Yours Sincerely, C.Ge

I have literally just come back from my 5 day trip to the Far North of Scotland and the Isle of Skye. I don’t even know where to begin about the absolutely fantastic time I’ve had the last couple of days. Tony (I think you said your last name was Walker), our driver/tour guide/DJ/comedian/fount of information made the trip very enjoyable. Usually, I dislike being cooped up in a car for more than half an hour but Tony made time past by so quickly with his quirky anecdotes, funny stories about growing up, and hilarious impressions of Sean Connery and famous people in Scottish history that I didn’t even feel like we were in the car for that long. You could totally tell he was very passionate about Scotland by the way he told his stories and spoke of it. He is a truly authentic person who enjoys letting people in on why Scotland is such a wonderful place with its rich history. He was a never-ending fountain of information whom we could always rely on to answer all of our questions ridiculous or not. He was ever patient and extremely accommodating. It seemed like he went out of his way to ensure that all 13 of us had the best possible times of our lives. At the beginning of my trip, I was late in catching my train and it was delayed but Tony went out of his way to stop by the train station where I was to scoop me up instead of leaving me behind since it was my fault that I was late. He didn’t have to do it yet he did which goes to show what a generous person he is. My most memorable memory would probably be when we were in a “traffic jam” with a couple highland coos clogging the road. Tony stopped and let us hop off for a totally cool photo opportunity. When he wasn’t enlightening us with fascinating stories, he serenaded us with delightful Scottish tunes, both modern and traditional. I wish I had gotten the names of a couple of them. The coaches were really comfortable and I never felt stifled inside it. Temperature was always perfectly right and the view from any angle was marvelous! The scenery was ever changing but always absolutely gorgeous. From Loch Ness, Inverness, Skye, Glencoe to Callander- Scotland is a beautiful country unlike any other. Tony is truly an asset to Rabbie’s and I am definitely booking another tour with Tony as the guide! =) You could never find a better person to tour with. Thanks Tony the Terrific! I love Scotland! -Chau H. Pham Los Angeles, California (but currently studying in Stirling) USA

Our tour guide John and coach driver Kenny took excellent care of us during our Canadian Quarriers Family tour of Skye, the Highlands and Edinburgh last week.

My sister and I along with our husbands took this tour and cannot say enough good things about it and our guide Richard MacKay. The scenery was fantastic and Richard went out of his way to make sure we got to Kilmur on the Isle of Skye as that is where our grandmother was born and raised. We will treasure the pictures of us in front of the church and school she attended. The B@B's where we stayed were top quality and all the people were so friendly. I would take a small bus tour from Rabbies anytime and would recommend it to all. Thanks Richard you were great.

We just returned from our Highland Explorer tour. We've taken similar tours with other companies before, and this was by far the best. We were originally worried about investing so much of our brief stay in Scotland with one tour, but are now incredibly happy that we did. The highlands are unquestionably one of the most beautiful places we've ever been. Enough can not be said for visiting with an expert in the local custom as well as the history, and we had both in our guide Richard McKay. He went above and beyond in virtually every aspect of the trip. He even took us to a few areas not on the itinerary that only a local would know. I would likely take this exact trip again, and would definitely recommend it to friends/family.

My fiance and I planned our first overseas trip ever around this tour and we loved it. Our guide Alec is a very nice guy, very authentic, very knowledgeable, and a great driver. I wouldn't have trusted anyone else driving us around the challenging roads of the Highlands. The land is fascinating and scenic. The people are warm and inviting. I cannot recommend this tour and our driver enough. Whatever they are paying him isn't enough. And if you are reading this thing Alec, thanks again. Look us up if you ever come to America. As you say, Cheers!

WE ENJOYED OUR TOUR VERY MUCH. Richard, you are the best tour-guide! Thanks for all....See you... Marcus & Sonja from Bonn If you want more pictures you can find them on my hompage.

If it is possible to fall in love with a country I have. Lucky for Scotland I cannot afford to live there! I spent the entire five days trying to memorize the landscape in my mind as well as my camera. The combination of mountains, streams, ocean, and beaches reminded me a little of living in Alaska as a kid. Just breathtaking! Our guide Alec was the best. We had a wide range of ages on the tour and he was accommodating to all. I love history so I found his sharing of Scottish history fascinating. The highland clearances made me think of my Navajo ancestors experience in the US. I highly recommend Rabbies Tours. Thanks for a truly memorable time.

Nice to see the great view of the 'butts of Lewis'! I had a great tour, Scotland superb, views, hospitalty etc. Even weather not too bad. Karen an excellent tour guide, great knowledge and made us all feel welcome - Thanks Karen & Rabbie's.

Despite the constant rain, our tour was truly interesting: breathtaking views and a guide, Alec, with a considerable knowledge of Scottish history and sense of humor, too (I lost my mobile phone everywhere..) Very good experience for me and my child.

This tour has been one of the greatest things i've ever done and i highly reccomend it to everyone. Alec our guide was great and we all loved him! He was nice, funny, a great driver, and a wonderful guide with great stories, who showed us some amazing places. I am highly appreciative and hope to see him again some day. Will definately go on this tour again!

Great tour! Hi to everyone

Posted on 15/06/2009
I've been home for three weeks and STILL wake up looking forward to getting on the bus and riding through beautiful, historic and friendly Scotland! (Scots have got to be the friendliest people on the planet!) Then I realize I'm back in New York! :-( This tour was great and our tour guide, Alec, was wonderful. A mix of storyteller, comedien, historian and diplomat - and a great bus driver, considering some of the roads! A really nice person and the perfect escort for 16 people on a 5 day tour covering so much of the country. Thank you, Alec! :-) I learned a lot, saw beautiful sights and met some really nice folks from all over. Shout out to everyone on the tour: Anon, Rhaji, Glenn, Rocheen, Margaret, Peggy, Pat, Mary, Britta, Nicole, Laura, Graham, Paul, Penny and Carol! Yup, got 'em all! Thank you to the 'office' staff, also, who were always willing to help with any questions I had, even if they had nothing to do with a tour - like directions through town or where to get a coffee! This was a tour definitely worth taking, whether you're in Scotland for 5 or 15 days! Thank you Alec and Rabbies!

Posted on 03/06/2009
There was but one problem: this 5 day trip was just too short. We had a nice group at the bus with a lot of interesting (and interested!) people. We had the wonderful landscape of Scotland. We even had sunshine! Plus some rain, how it should be. And we had Alec, our driver/guide who in a former life must have been a mountain goat, as fast as he could climb the paths! "Alec tell us a story" came a voice from the back of the bus and off he went to entertain us. All those "useless knowledge" that makes life interesting. Anyone can get the facts from a guide book ;-) Those 5 days had a 3-weeks-effect: as if I've been away for a three weeks vacation. Lots of pictures as a yield. Thanks, guy, I will be back in August for the 8 days "WHISKY COAST EXPLORER " - hope to see You again!

Dear Rabbie's team, Congratulations! Toni is the best tour guide ever: entertaining, broad knowledge, fun to be with, good story teller and driver. I was in Scotland for the first time ever, and it was much of Toni's contribution that I had such a great time - despite of the awful weather ;-) In addition, the Craigside Lodge Guesthouse in Inverness was the B&B I had during my entire stay (8 days!)!!! Pics. are attached. Thanks again to Rabbie's for that wonderful tour. Steffi (Germany)

Ross was very informative and clearly passionate about the Highlands. He made good selections to deviate from the standard plan to accomodate weather or timing and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Our guide was great. The B and B's that you picked for us were very good. Our entire group was very friendly and made an excellent group to travel with. The scenery was wow.

Posted on 24/07/2009
The places we visited and the tour guide Alec was wonderful, knowledgable and had a great sense of humour. The places we visited were very interesting and a bit different. Alec let people take their time and was so flexible and accomodating to all. Accomodation at the Mardon B & B in Inverness was wonderful. Accomodation in Portree was very nice.

Posted on 17/06/2009
Our guide/driver, Alec was wonderful. His driving was expert and very safety conscious. The scenery was awesome and even the weather cooperated! It was great to be able to sit back and enjoy the scenery without having to worry about driving on the twisty one lane roads that we were on so much of the time. Alec was very good about filling us in on what we were seeing and on where to eat, etc Even my husband, who had never been on a bus tour and who had been a really "hard sale", was completely impressed and was glad we had done the tour instead of trying to go it on our own. It was also nice to be able to pick what type of place we wanted to stay in and where we wanted to eat.
