Gaidhlig smaoin an latha- Thought for the day!

Cha bhi ach bratan marbh a'snamh leis an t'sruth

Only dead salmon swim with the current.

Think about it- its deep.

And here's a wee poem I wrote earlier..

My beloved Scotland,

How beautiful you look

Dressed in your autumn coat

Your richness of colour

though still the grey tops tower

and the sky like a bright white light shines.

Green and emerald

sepia and red

your coat of many colours dances to the river bed

hurried streams gurgling and gushing

mountians in their splendour imposing.

My eyes see all your beauty

I marvel at your majesty

I stand in awe of your bounty

And my heart overflows with love for you.

Aah, pass me a hanky!

Gaelic corner- Firinn an latha-Fact of the day. Scottish Profile- Rabbie Burns or Robert Burns

If you suffer from being follically challenged there is hope...

Rubbing the head vigourously against a silver birch tree traditionally helps encourage hair growth. The sap has medicinal properties which applied liberally to the scalp....

Tha ti na feanntagan math airson do ghruag, gu h-araidh mu tha sibh mall neo mu tha sgall a'tighinn oirbh. Cleachd an ti mar siampu!

or nettles, those amazing of plants, can be used as a shampoo, which reputedly also helps will hair loss!

Just take a look!

The voice of calm

However much you think you enjoy driving it's a stressful business. Why not take the back seat with a driver you can trust and let us do the hard work..go on you know it makes sense!

Who better than to start our Scots profile than with the very man that our tour company is named after..

Rabbie, born in Alloway in 1759, was the son of a poor tenant farmer, and was the eldest of a family of seven. He was well read and educated, despite the family's poor circumstances. Rabbie began to write poetry to relieve the tedium of farming, which would contribute to his ill health later in life.It was at this time that he penned a poem called ' My Handsome Nell' reflecting on the two other more important things in his life, namely women and drink! Roberts father by this time had passed over and he and his brother became partners on the farm, but for Rabbie his interests lay in the romance of nature , indulging in several liasons with the fairer sex. This resulted in him siring several illegitimate children, including twins born to Jean Armour, who would later become his wife. Rabbies decision to leave for the West Indies was halted when his first book of poems was published and received critical acclaim. From poor unknown farmer he became the toast of the elite and was catapulted into stardom, mingling in the illustrious circle of Edinburgh. Within weeks he would now be a national celebrity, but without the trappings of wealth that todays celebrities enjoy. Instead he worked as an excise man. Rabbie died at 37 of heart disease. On the same day he died his wife jean would give birth to his last son Maxwell. More than 10,000 people attended the funeral of the great man- know affectionately as ' the ploughman poet'

Today there are more than 400 of Burns works still in print. His legacy to the Scots and fans over the world is extraordinary, and who better then to build a company based on this great mans name.

Short Story

What better time than now to join a Rabbie's tour as the rich autumn hues spill over the mountainside dappling the magnificent Highlands in a blaze of riotous glory. Glimpses of our often elusive wildlife enchant the hills, as the roaring of the stag, as he beats his chest through the rutting season resonates through the glens.

The stag at this time is a formidable beast.

Having spent the summer in the gym, he is now a vision of taught, tight, trim and tantalising muscle, and a complete tease as he torments the girls, flexing his bounty, and practising his well rehearsed chat up lines as he ambles by...' hey there, do you believe in love at first sight, or shall I walk past again! '

The smell of his cologne is pungent, dowsing himself in a peatbog to accencuate his natural odour. His time is now as he woes and wins his harem of girls.

Tempers flare. Antlers lock. Competition is fierce but he stands alone. A man on a mission. If he is lucky he might end up with about 40 females in attendance to service and try to satisfy! Not for the faint hearted. A mans job at times is a hard one!

Greed though is the biggest price for valour. With all his ladies won, the pressure to keep his girls is on, as he fights of other challengers, ensuring that no extra curricular activity takes place except on his terms! His credit card hits maximum, the bathroom is always busy, and through lack of sleep and food as he hasn't had time to eat, he becomes a pale shadowy figure of his once glorious self! All too soon he leaves his girls, their relationship over. It was fast, furious, self fulfilling and ultimately finished!

Tears are shed, hearts are broken and cast askew, but no matter how she tries to make him stay, he walks away his head in the air, a slight swagger in his stiffened gait and never looks back!

She sees her friend, a broken woman and offers some kindly advise.

' Ach bare down lass! Shoosh shoosh, don'y ye ken that ye must ne'er cry o'er a man,..... just shout next! '

The comparisons between some Scottish men and stags is uncanny! Mmm well atleast some that i've known!

Yeh we hear you! All blag and bluster!

What’s on in the city- party pary party!

What can I say!- we are all in a state of shock- numbed but ecstatic! If you haven't already heard- yep Scotland, yes Scotland had their most incredible victory last night in Paris in the European football championship qualifiers as they turned on the style and somehow managed to beat a French football team, who were only runners up in the world cup! Paris was set alight by the tartan army- some 15,000 brave soldiers, war painted and kilted up ,who's resilience to the Scottish cause is remarkable! For a change, they, and we had reason to celebrate...hah hah- what a feeling! We can hardly believe it...! Viva Ecosse!

Now lets get behind our Scottish rugby team who are participating in the Rugby world cup just now! With a first victory over Portugal under our belts...the stage is set for what will prove to be a fantastic, bloody, gut wrenching battering by the the dark cloud that is looming large on the horizon in the shape of the All Blacks! Murrayfield stadium, Edinburgh is the scene of this gladitorial contest. Images of Russell Crowe spring to mind, and we all know what happened to him! 23rd Sept is the date. Pop it in your diaries! Will we be dancing in the heather after that game...mmm..well if you know the Scots, fortunately they need no reason to party! Win or lose there's a party in town, and Edinburgh is the place to be!

Proverb says- you have 3 choices in life-give up, give in, or give it your all! Go on lads!

Scottish joke- stop yer tickling!

Young Jimmy was in school and the teacher was going over well known expressions, then asking the children, who were about 8 to finish each expression with their own ending- i.e 'a stitch in time saves nine' etc etc

Well Jimmy, the teacher then calls out 'what have you got for ' better late than never'- 'better late than...?'

mmm he thinks and answers- ' better late than pregnant miss!

21rst century bairns, what are they like!

And Finally: yes it is the end...for another quarter at least!

Wishing you all a happy autumn from Suu and all at Rabbie's!
